Roscommon and District League Round Up 29th January 23
All the first round games in the Norios Premier Division were completed and as a result the Division will now be divided with the top five teams competing for the Premier Division Championship and the lower five teams competing to avoid relegation to Division 1 next season.
Premier Division side St Johns athletic travelled to Kilkerrin where the played the home side. The Lecarrow side came good on a 5 -3 score line. Brian Miskell gave the home side a 1 – 0 lead but ten minutes later Cain Kelly replied for St Johns Athletic. Darren Carroll gave St Johns a 2 – 1 lead but Brian Miskell and Brian Mc Dermott replied for Kilkerrin before half time. Daire Keenan Karol Feerick and Robbie Shine scored for St Johns athletic added three more for the Lecarrow side after the break. Boyle Celtic Moore United Castlerea Celtic C P Ajax and St Johns Athletic will now make up the top section of the Division.

The First round games in the Joes Bar Roscommon and District League Challenge Cup were played on Sunday. Only teams from the lower two Divisions took part in this round.
Cup Holders Shiven Rovers played St Johns Athletic second side at Lecarrow and while not as easy as expected they came out on a 3 – 1 score line. Adam Farrell opened the scoring after twenty minutes following a neat pass from Frankie Kilcommins. Ten minutes later Farrell was taken down and Keith Murphy converted the resultant spot kick. St Johns were better in the second half and Mark O Malley pulled a goal back with fifteen played. Conor French sealed a win for the Cup holders when he added a third for the Newbridge side with five minutes remaining.

Division 1 side Ballymoe F C had a comfortable 5 – 1 win over Cam Celtic at Ballymoe. A much improved home side. Damien Goggins scored three and David Swift and Adrian Collins added one each. Gareth Mulligan replied for Cam Celtic.
Division two side St Cuans / Ahascragh United knocked out Division 1 side Dunmore Town following a penalty shoot out at Ahascragh. The game finished at 2 – 2 at the end of extra time with the home side winning the shoot out on a 3 – 2 score line. Colin Concannon converted a penalty for the winners and Kenny English added a second with Declan Forde and Shane Mc Grath replying for the Dunmore side.

Division 1 side Cloonfad United beat Division 2 side Rahara Rovers 5 – 0 at Rahara.
Conor Ruane and Conor Flynn gave Cloonfad United a 2 – 0 half time lead and Neil Morris Shane Fagan and Darragh Flynn added three more in the second half.

In the Joe Concannon RDFL Women’s Challenge Cup Boyle Celtic beat Colemanstown 5 – 0nat Boyle . Katie Hannon scored two and Clare Byrne Maeve Brogan and Sheridan Takahara added one each.

Ballaghaderreen beat an improving Ballinasloe Town side 3 – 1 at Ballaghaderreen.Sinead Mc Greal scored two and Jessica Feeney added the third for the winners.

Shiven Rovers had a hard earned 1 – 0 win over Kilkerrin United at Kilkerrin.
The turning point in the game came with twenty played in the second half. Rachel Farrell and Lucy Dunican created on opening for Sheenagh Martyn and her superb volley won the game for Shiven Rovers.
In a really exciting and close game Cam Celtic edged out a gallant Castlerea Celtic side on a 2 – 1 score line at Cam. The Leagues leading goal scorer Sarah O Rourke scored two for Cam Celtic with Catriona Diggins replying for Castlerea Celtic side.

In the Reserve League Ballinagare/ Manor United drew 2 – 2 in a good game at Ballinagare, The home side took the lead with a fine volley from Ryan Higgins with thirty played. The Newbridge side fought back and Francisco Real Miras and Sylvester Zwercziek had them 2 – 1 ahead with seventy played. Louis Galvin scored a deserved equaliser for the home side ten minutes later.

Moore United and Cloonfad United drew 1 – 1 at Moore. Mark Lennon won and converted a penalty kick to give Moore a 1.0 lead. Cloonfad United levelled the game before half time and while both teams gave it their all in the second half they rarely created a real scoring chance.
