Roscommon & District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes

Moore United advanced to the fifth round of the FAI Junior Cup following an impressive victory over the Sligo Champions City United at Falty Park Moore. This thrilling game went all the way to a penalty shoot out before Moore United came out on top on a 4 – 3 scoreline. The home side were much the better team in the first half but were un settle when the Sligo Super League side went in front after twenty minutes. However eight minutes later Alan Duffy had the sides level. The visitors were better in the second half but had to depend on a late equaliser to force extra time after Mark Nicholson gave Moore a 2 – 1 lead. There were no more scores in extra time and Moore won the shoot on a 4 – 3 scoreline.

In an all Premier Division clash at Castlerea Ballaghaderreen are also through to the open draw stages of the competition following a 2 – 0 win over Castlerea Celtic.
Bob Towey broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half with a rare goal and Lee Keenan converted a penalty kick ten minutes later following a hand ball in the Castlerea Celtic penalty area.

Dysart were beaten 3 – 2 at home to the Mayo side Westport United. On two occasions Dysart came from behind to level the score but when Westport scored with ten minutes left to play they ran out of time. Niall Corbett scored both goals for Dysart

The Brazilian side Brazukas travelled to the Mayo Super league side Manulla but were beaten 2 – 0. A goal in each half from the home side ended the great run of wins by the Brazilian side.

In the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District league St Johns Athletic had their first win of the season following their promotion to the Premier Division at the end of last season. Ultan Kelly volleyed to the Skyvalley Rovers net after twenty two minutes of play and David Mc Donald added their second with thirty played. Ethan Keogh pulled one back for Skyvalley Rovers before half time but they failed to get an equaliser.

With Brazukas otherwise engaged Shiven Rovers go three points clear at the top of Division 1 following a 4 – 1 win over Loughglynn United at Newbridge. Eric Walsh after ten and Padraig Delaney after fifteen minutes gave Shiven Rovers a 2 – 0 lead. Loughglynn pulled a goal back with fifteen played in the second half. However Aidan Mc Inerney added two more for Shiven Rovers in the last twelve minutes.

In Division 2 Moylough 79 beat Roscommon United 5 – 2 at Moylough. The home side were 2 – 0 up at half time. Just after the break Brian Morgan pulled one back for the visitors but the winners recovered quickly and scored two more before Johnny O Keeffe replying for the losers. Peter Kelly scored two and Marcus Finn Jason Lohan and Michael Foley added one each for Moylough 79 who are still very much in contention for Promotion.

Lough Harps and K C Celtic drew 1 – 1 at Ballinlough. David Mc Na Meara gave the Ballinlough side a 1 – 0 lead after four minutes and the Kilconnell side levelled the game six minutes later. With Keeper Rory Mannion and David Freyne in top form Lough Harps denied the stronger K C Celtic side a score.

Skyvalley Rovers and C. P Ajax drew 1 – 1 at Onagh park Taughmaconnell. Eric Braz gave the Castleplunket side a 1 – 0 lead with fifty five played and Lee Clogher levelled the game with fifteen minutes left to play. The Castleplunket side share second place with Lough Harps..

Moore United beat Cloonfad United 3 – 2 at Cloonfad. Seamus Burke gave Cloonfad an early lead.
A Ray Griffin penalty and one each from Damien Conlan and Michael Carty gave Moore a 3 – 1 advantage before Darren O Malley scored a second for Cloonfad United.
