Roscommon and District League Round Up
Ballinasloe Town made it three wins in a row and are now top of the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District league.
They were pushed all the way by an improving Kilkerrin United at Kilkerrin before coming out on top on a 4 – 2 score line. Niall Stack opened the scoring for Ballinasloe Town with thirteen played but Alan O Donnell volleyed and equaliser a few minutes later. Brian Miskell gave the home side a 2 – 1 advantage with fifty five played but Mark Duffy levelled the game five minutes later. The same player and Garry Egan added two more for Ballinasloe Town before the end.

St Johns Athletic slipped up when beater 2 – 1 at home by an improving Castlerea Celtic who won their first three pointer of the season. Castlerea Celtic gradually gained control in the first half and deservedly took the lead when Oisin O Farrell headed a corner kick to the St Johns net. St Johns pressed forward in search of an equaliser in the second half but the home defence held firm until the ninety minute when Robbie Shine levelled the game. However there was to be one more twist to the game when with almost the last kick of the game Jarlath Geraghty found Oisin O Farrell who laid it off to the in rushing Niall Higgins who volleyed to the St Johns net.

Moore United beat Ballaghaderreen F C 4 – 1 at Moore. While Moore were the better side they had to wait until the closing fifteen minutes before scoring three more goals to secure the three points.
Charles Nevin gave Moore a 1 – 0 lead with thirty played and Sean Smyth levelled the game with a fine strike after fifty two minutes. Charles Nevin Andy Hussey and Jack Nevin added three more for the winners.

Title holders Boyle Celtic had a tricky game away to a good C P Ajax side but they came out on top following a 3 – 0 win. A young and very fit Castleplunket side made Boyle Celtic work hard for the full ninety minutes. Louis Garvin missed two great chances. With thirty played C P Ajax suffered a big blow when their influential midfielder Paul Mee retired through injury. Not long afterwards Mike Corrigan headed Boyle Celtic in front and just before half time Daniel Hughes added a second. Callum Andrews added a third for Boyle Celtic with sixty played to make sure of all three points.

With just a few rounds of games played in Division 1 it’s already becoming clear that this will be really close with most of the teams in contention until the last game of the season. Leaders Dysart were at home to Ballinagare /Manor United but it was the visitors who came out on a 2 – 1 score line and they now share the lead with Dysart. While the winners created more chances in the first half Dysart also missed a few. With fifty six played Aidan Dowd broke the deadlock when he scored for the winners. Dysart were level eighteen minutes later through Conor Dolan but with five left to play Aidan Dowd got his second for Ballinagare / Manor United and they held on to take all three points.

Cup holders Shiven Rovers made it two wins out of two when they beat Roscommon United 4 – 1 at Roscommon. After dominating much of the opening half Shiven took the lead after thirty seven minutes. Good work by young Jack Gavin and Seamus O Kelly created an opening for Adam Farrell who fired to the bottom corner of the visitors net. Seamus O Kelly added a second with four minutes left to play in the first half. Roscommon United never gave up and they pulled it back to 2 – 1 with fifty six played thanks to a Leo Pereira goal. With ten remaining Joey Horan found Adam Farrell with a neat pass and he scored his second for the winners. Man of the match Joe Horan added a fourth for Sean Gavin’s men with seven left to play.

Second placed Ballymoe F C travelled to Cloonfad and in a game that was not reflected in the score line Cloonfad United were 8 – 2 winners. Ballymoe missed many chances and at the other end they conceded some soft goals.
Conor Flynn scored four and Jack Reinhardt three for the winners with Darren Keadin adding the eight for the winners who were 5 – 1 ahead at the break. Mark Kilcommins and Damien Goggins replied for the losers.

St Cuans / Ahascragh United hold onto top spot in Division 2 thanks to a 3 – 1 win over St Johns Athletic at Ahascragh. Simon Leonard gave the home side a 1 – 0 lead with ten played and Kenny English added a second four minutes later. The visitors pulled one back through Jordan Kennedy before half time but Colin Concannon sealed all three points for the winners when he scored a third from the penalty spot with seventy played.

Rahara Rovers had an impressive 4 – 2 win following a hard fought battle at home to a very good Glen Celtic side. Jamie Tiernan was man of the match and he scored all four goals for the winners. The sides were well matched in the first half with the score line 3 – 2in favour of the Rahara side at the interval. Ryan Mc Hugh and Willie Comer kept the Glenamaddy side very much in the game. However a fourth goal from Tiernan after the break gave his side some breathing space and they held on for an important win.
In the Women’s Premier Division Boyle Celtic beat Shiven Rovers 1 – 0 at Newbridge. Katie Walsh scored the only goal of the game.
