Roscommon and District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes.

Moore United advanced the Joe's Bar sponsored Roscommon and District League Challenge Cup Final and a meeting with St. Peter's FC next Sunday following a hard earned penalty shoot out win over Boyle Celtic at the League Grounds, Lecarrow on Saturday evening. The outcome of this thrilling game was in doubt until the last kick of the game. The teams shared six goals from play and in the shoot out sixteen penalty kicks were taken before Moore United won on a 7 – 6 scoreline.

Boyle scored after only three minutes when centre back John Connolly headed a Danny Browne corner kick to the Moore net. With twenty-seven played an Emmet Kenny cross was forced over the Boyle goal line by the alert Shane Pettit. Moore went in front ten minutes later when a great defence splitting pass from Charles Nevin reached his brother Andy and he scored with a crisp volley.
Danny Browne levelled the game half way through the second half when he converted a penalty kick after Dessie Carlos was fouled in the Moore penalty area.
With thirty two played in the second half Andy Nevin got goal side of his marker and was taken down inside the Boyle Celtic penalty area. The same played converted the spot kick. Just when it looked like Moore were going to hold out Boyle Celtic were awarded a free kick and Shane Battles headed Ger McDermott Roe's free kick to the Moore net.

Following protestations Moore United had a player sent off as the game went to extra time. Moore United had a second player sent off after receiving a second yellow card but they held on for a penalty shoot out. Both Aidan McManus and Chris Casey made two excellent saves before Moore won the shot out on a 7 – 6 scoreline.

Congratulations are extended to Ballinasloe Town who beat Ballymoe FC 2 – 1 at Lecarrow in the final of the Hanly Quarries Premier Division Cup. This was a really good game between two evenly matched sides who were only interested in attacking football. On four occasions, two for each side, the ball came back of the wood work before the end of the game. The turning point of the game came early in the second half with the introduction of substitute Garry Canavan and he scored one and made another goal for Ballinasloe. With thirty-eight played Damien Goggins controlled the ball with his back to goal before turning and volleying to the Ballinasloe Town net. Garry Canavan levelled the game with thirty minutes played in the second half and the same played created an opening for Liam Lynch to score the winner from close range in the first period of extra time.

St. John's Athletic and Ballaghaderreen FC will contest this season's Norio's Division One Cup final next Saturday evening following wins over CP Ajax and Moylough 79 in their Semi-Final games. Ultan Kelly and Tommy Hurley completed their hat tricks in the second half.

Ballaghaderreen were surprise winners over Division One Champions Moylough at Ballaghaderreen. Adam Connolly gave the Moylough side a 1- 0 lead with only 10 minutes played but it was all downhill after that as Ballaghaderreen struck four without reply.
