Ballinasloe Town 2 Ballymoe FC 1 After Extra Time

In a thrilling game of football at the Roscommon and District League grounds in Lecarrow, Ballinasloe Town edged out Ballymoe FC in a game that either side could have won. Ballymoe started well and came close to scoring in the opening minutes but gradually Ballinasloe Town worked their way back into the game and were in control for the final twenty minutes of the half. With thirty-eight minutes played Damien Goggins won possession with his back to goal outside the Ballinasloe penalty area. He turned sharply before volleying into the top corner of the net to bring his total to twenty seven for the season. While Ballinasloe came close to levelling the game before half time some good saves from the Ballymoe keeper Richard Thompson kept them at bay. After the break Ballymoe went all out for a second and only missed out by the width of the cross bar on two occasions.

The introduction of Gary Canavan gave Ballinasloe the advantage and he volleyed a fine equaliser with thirty-two played in the second half. The same player left Liam Lynch with only a tap in at the beginning of first period of extra time. Damien Goggins was inches from an equaliser when he lobbed the keeper but the ball crept just wide. Daniel Malone and James Connaughton were also close to levelling the game but the experienced defence of Mike Lynch, Des Hope and Joe Woods kept Ballinasloe Town ahead until the final whistle.
