Roscommon and District league Round Up by Vincent Brookes

Roscommon and District league title holders Castlerea Celtic returned to winning ways when they beat newly promoted Ahascragh United 3 – 0 at Castlerea. Darren Mc Dermott opened the scoring for the home side and Ronan Curran added a second from the penalty spot before Declan Creighton added their third.

Shiven Rovers made it three wins out of four played when they beat Ballaghaderreen 4 – 1 at Newbridge. Ballaghaderreen were 1 – 0 ahead at the break thanks to Johnny Mc Nulty but four well taken goals by a younger and fitter Shiven Rovers side saw them take the three points, Keith Murphy volleyed their first and Keith Crehan added a second within fifteen minutes of the start. Young Pierce Mc Donagh added a third with fourteen left to play and Eric Walsh completed the scoring for a Shiven Rovers club who were celebrating their FAI Club of the year award at Newbridge.

Ballymoe FC made it four wins out of four played when they beat Skyvalley Rovers 4 – 0 at a rain swept Onagh park, Taughmaconnell. The winners took the lead courtesy of an own goal and Barry Gaffey, Daniel Malone and John Connaughton added three more before the end.

Moore United made it nine points from their three league games played when they beat Brazukas 8 – 0 at Moore. The Brazilian side missed a penalty kick before Andy Nevin scored for Moore with five minutes left to play in the first half. After the break Shane Mulvey scored two and Alan Duffy, Andy Nevin, Darragh Concannon, Kevin Brennan and Ethan Keogh added one each.

In the Norio’s Takeaway Division 1, Dysart beat Ballinasloe Town 3 – 1 at Dysart and they have maximum points from their three games played. Paul Higgins gave Dysart a 1- 0 lead with thirty five played and John Coyne added a second with sixty two played. Eoin Fallon scored again for the winners before David Grehan pulled a goal back for the losers.

Cloonfad United also have nine points from their three games played following a 5 – 2 win over Rahara Rovers at Rahara. Frank Royane got their first and Sean Kearney added two more before Sean Commane pulled a goal back for the losers. Andy Glennon added a fourth and Cian Ruane a fifth with Sean Ridley earlier getting a second for Rahara.

The Ballinlough side Lough Harps were held to a 1- 1 draw at home to Kilkerrin United. With Rory Mannion and Rob Cregg in good form Sean Moran scored for Lough Harps. Cathal Moran replied for Kilkerrin United.

In Division 2 Dunmore Town recorded their second successive win when they beat Shiven Rovers 3 – 2 at Newbridge. Niall Rattigan, Anto Nimic and Evan Canny scored for the winners with Shane Harkin and Pauraic Mannion replying for Shiven Rovers.

Skyvalley Rovers and Ballinagare drew 2 – 2 at Taughmaconnell. James Dowd and Joseph Looby gave Ballinagare a 2 – 0 lead with Jack Moore scoring two for a fortunate Skyvalley Rovers.

Hodson Bay Athletic beat Roscommon United 6 – 3 at Roscommon. Paul Allen and Jamie Bracken gave the home side a 2 – 0 advantage but after that their young side failed to keep up the pressure. Cormack Sheehy scored four and Joe Cunniffe two for the Kiltoom side.

Moore United conceded their away game to Castlerea Celtic.
The remaining games were victims of the bad weather.
