Roscommon & District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes

Ballymoe FC are the clear leaders of the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following comfortable 3 – 2 win over title holders Castlerea Celtic at Castlerea. Peter Farrell gave Castlerea Celtic an early lead and they looked like taking control. However, Daniel Malone soon had the sides level and the same player added a second for Ballymoe just before half time. Keith Muldoon added a third from the penalty spot before Ronan Curran pulled a second back for the losers when he converted a penalty kick.

Ballinasloe Town beat St John's Athletic 3 – 1 at Lecarrow. Mark Duffy scored early and while St John's Athletic were level shortly afterwards their chances of a win all but vanished when they had a player sent off for a second bookable offence. Shane Treacy and David Grehan sealed a win for Ballinasloe.

Ahascragh United were beaten 4 – 1 at home by fellow promoted side Brazukas at Ahascragh. Kenny English gave the home side a 1- 0 lead after nine minutes. Marley headed an equaliser with thirteen played and Vando scored with a stunning strike with twenty four played. The Brazukas keeper denied Ahascragh United an equaliser when he saved a penalty kick and Matheus and Vando added two more for the Brazilian side before the end

In the first round of the FAI Junior Cup, Premier side Shiven Rovers beat Division 1 side Dunmore Town 5 – 2 at Dunmore. Eric Walsh scored three and Philip Heavey and Keith Crehan one each for the Newbridge side.

Premier side Moore United were beaten 2 – 1 away to former Roscommon and District league side Boyle Celtic. Michael Corrigan scored two for the Sligo Champions before former Ballinasloe Town player Darragh Concannon scored for Moore from the penalty spot with five minutes left to play.

Skyvalley Rovers were unlucky to be beaten 1 – 0 at home by the Sligo Super league side Manorhamilton. Paul Langan scored the winner with fifteen minutes left to play.

In Division 1 Cloonfad United and Dysart remain unbeaten this season. Dysart beat Lough Harps 2 – 1 at Dysart. Adrian Cregg gave the Ballinlough side a 1 – 0 half time lead. Paul Higgins and John Coyne replied for Sean Mc Donnell’s men after the break.

Cloonfad United beat the Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic 3 – 0 at Cloonfad. Kian Ruane gave Cloonfad a 1 – 0 cushion at half time and Sean Doyle and Andy Glennon added two more after the break.

Loughglynn United beat Ballinasloe Town 4 – 2 at Ballinasloe. Christopher Dunne gave Loughglynn a 1 – 0 half time lead and Barry Nolan added a second just after the break. Both players scored again before Michael Kelly and Warren Coyne replied for the home side.

CP Ajax beat Kilkerrin 3 – 2 in a thriller at Tarmon. Donald Coyne, Ciaran Harkin and Brendan Kilkenny scored for the Castleplunket side while Declan Murphy and an own goal kept Kilkerrin in the game.

In the Division 2 title race Strokestown United remain unbeaten after three games. They beat Moore United 1 – 0 at Moore. Kevin Finn finally succeeded in beating the impressive Moore keeper Mark Whelan to secure all three points.

Castlerea Celtic beat Moylough 2 – 1 in an entertaining game at Castlerea. Jack Higgins and Darren Mc Dermott scored for the winners and Marcus Finn replied for Moylough 79.

Cloonfad United beat old rivals Skyvalley Rovers 1 – 0 at Cloonfad. Sean Doyle scored the only goal of the game after twenty two minutes of play.

New side Ballinagare were beaten 5 – 0 at home by Dunmore Town. Shane Gleeson got his hat trick and Anto Ninic added two more for the winners.

Hodson Bay Athletic drew 1 – 1 at home to Shiven Rovers. Cormack Sheehy scored for the home side and Shiven Rovers scored by way of an own goal.

Roscommon United and Cam Celtic drew 2 – 2 at Roscommon. Kieran Shine and Mark Mc Cauley scored for Cam Celtic.
