Roscommon and District League
Round up 30th April 2023
Roscommon and District League Champions Moore United are through to the Joes Bar Challenge Cup final following a 2 – 1 win over Boyle Celtic at the League Grounds Lecarrow on Sunday. Playing with the aid of a stiff wind in the first half Moore went in at half time two goals to the good. With ten played Jack Nevin created a chance for his brother Charles and he scored for Moore United. Ten minutes later Shane Dunning curled the ball into the Boyle net.
Boyle Celtic started the second half on a good note and pulled a goal back through Darren Foley in the first minute of the second half. However that was as good as it got for Boyle Celtic as they rarely tested the Moore keeper for the remainder of the game.
Moore will face the winners of the Cloonfad United v Castlerea Celtic game in the final.
Cam Celtic won the D K sponsored Roscommon and District League Shield competition following a hard earned 1 – 0 win over Dunmore Town at the League Grounds Lecarrow on Saturday evening. The teams knew each other very well and as a result there were few real scoring chances created in the first half. Just before halftime the Cam Celtic striker David Cunniffe raced on to a ball over the Dunmore defence and gave the Dunmore keeper no chance with a clinical finish. The second half was mainly Dunmore’s and they came very close on many occasions to levelling the game but just had no luck on the night and Cam held out to win
Kilkerrin United won the Women’s Shield final when they defeated Castlerea Celtic 2 – 0 at Lecarrow. While this talented Kilkerrin side were clear favourites to win they did find it difficult to beat a determined Castlerea Celtic side. While Kilkerrin were 1 – 0 ahead after thirty five minutes following an excellent volley from Caitlin Boyle it required a stunning Lynsey Noone strike near the end to secure the win.
In the Division 1 Division 2 Promotion Relegation battle Ballinasloe Town second side beat Dysart 3 – 1 at Lecarrow and they will play Division2 side Glen Celtic for a place in Division 1 next Season. Cameron O Leary gave the winners a 2 – 0 lead before John Why pulled one back for Dysart. However Cameron O Leary completed his hat trick before the end.
