Roscommon & District League Round-Up by Vincent Brookes

Ballinasloe Town continue to lead the Herald sponsored Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following a comfortable 6 – 1 win over an injury hit Cloonfad United at Ballinasloe. Liam Lynch scored four and David Nee and Jordan O Leary added one each for the winners. Ryan Merchant replied for the losers.
Moore United had a good 3 – 1 win away to Dysart and are still very much in contention for the Premier Division title.
Alan Duffy scored two and Michael Collins one for Moore United and Philip Neary pulled a goal back for the losers.
They remain four points behind the leaders but have two games less played.

Ballymoe F C are in third place after their fifth win in six games in the Premier Division. They beat MD Town 4 – 2 at Ballymoe. Ross Timothy got a hat trick for Ballymoe in the first fifteen minutes. Tom Gleeson pulled a goal back for M D Town before half time. In the second half James Connaughton made it 4 – 1 for Ballymoe before Callum Manhire scored a second for the Milltown Dunmore side.

Shiven Rovers are a step closer to winning the Norio’s Division 1 title after beating Kilkerrin United 7 – 1 at Newbridge. Michael Killalea and Eric Walsh gave the home side a 2 – 0 advantage before Kilkerrin pulled a goal back through Keith Mc Mahon. Francis Kilcommins made it 3 – 1 at the break. In the second half Eoghan Mc Donagh scored two and Aidan Mc Inerney and young Darragh Murphy completed the scoring.

Glen Celtic lost ground on the leaders when beaten 3 – 2 at Glenamaddy by Ahascragh United. Simon Stachurski gave them a 1 – 0 lead early in the second half. Man of the match Joe Hunt soon levelled the game and Shane Furey and Derek Derwin added two more in quick succession. Ryan Mc Hugh pulled a goal back for Glen Celtic but they failed to get an equaliser.

The Ballinlough side Lough Harps took another step closer to winning the Division 2 title when they beat St Johns Athletic 3 – 0 away at Lecarrow. The game was scoreless until the sixty ninth minute when Kevin Lynch broke the deadlock. Michael Flynn and Robert Cregg added two more to secure all three points for the Ballinlough side who are now eleven points clear at the top of the points table.
The Castleplunket side C P Ajax kept their hopes of at least promotion to Division 1 alive when they beat K C Celtic 4 – 3 at Tarmon.
Paul Mee scored a hat trick and Darren Boyle one for the Castleplunket side. Kieran Finn scored all three goals for the Kilconnell side

Roscommon United (pictured above) beat Skyvalley Rovers 3 – 0 in their Division 2 game at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. With just nine minutes played Craig Tarmey took advantage of a defensive error from the home defence to score for Roscommon United at the second attempt after Benny Lynch saved his first attempt. With twenty one played a good cross by James Mc Donald was turned into his own net by a home defender. Both teams created many scoring chances in the second half but some outstanding saves by Paul Lally kept Skyvalley scoreless. With seventy six minutes played Craig Tarmey disposed the Skyvalley keeper before completing the scoring for Roscommon United.

All the remaining games were postponed due to bad weather.
