Roscommon & District League Round-Up by Vincent Brookes

Moore United suffered their first Premier Division defeat of the season when they were beaten at home by Castlerea Celtic. A much more direct Castlerea Celtic side took the lead with sixty eight played thanks to Niall Higgins and while Moore United did everything but score in the closing minutes they could not break down a resolute Castlerea side.

Leaders Ballinasloe travelled to Ballaghaderreen and came away with an impressive 5 – 0 win over the challengers. Playing against the wind at Urlar Mark Duffy gave the winners a 1 – 0 half time lead. After the break Darragh Concannon scored two with Mark Duffy getting his second and the fifth came by way of an own goal.

Skyvalley Rovers drew 1 – 1 away to a much improved Milltown Dunmore side at Milltown. Tommy Wrynne scored from the penalty spot for the home side five minutes into the second half. David Grehan got an equaliser for Skyvalley Rovers with fifteen minutes to go and they missed many chances to take all three points in the remaining time.

Newly Promoted St Johns Athletic had a very impressive 4 – 2 win over Dysart at Lecarrow. Tommie Hurley scored two and Ultan Kelly one in the first half. Hurley completed his hat trick before Paddy Neary scored two for a disappointing Dysart side.

Ballymoe F C beat Cloonfad United 3 – 1 at Cloonfad and are now in third place in the Premier Division. John Connaughton headed Ballymoe into the lead after fifteen minutes. Shane Fagan replied for Cloonfad United early in the second half. Daniel Malone made it 2 – 1 for a better Ballymoe side before Adrian Collins made sure of the points when he was put through on goals by Ross Timothy.

Shiven Rovers moved a step closer to winning the Division 1 Championship after a 7 – 0 win at Newbridge over bottom side Rahara Rovers. Padraig Mannion and Eric Walsh gave Shiven Rovers a 2 – 0 half time lead. After the break Padraig Delaney scored two and Darragh Murphy Michael Doyle and Eoghan Mc Donagh added one each.

Ballinasloe Town moved into second place after a 2- 1 win over the Brazilian side Brazukas at Ballinasloe. Mike Kelly and Brian Campbell for Ballinasloe Town and Eduardo Pixao scored for the Brazilian side. They are twelve points behind the leaders but with two games less played.

Loughglynn United finally got a game played and they beat Kilkerrin United 4 – 0 at Loughglynn. Mark O Brien gave the winners a 2 – 0 half time lead and he added his third with ten minutes played in the second half. Young Ronan Cahill scored their fourth.

The Ballinlough side Lough Harps (pictured above) took a major step towards winning the Division two championship when they beat nearest challengers Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 1 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell.
Lough Harps opened the scoring after twelve minutes of play. They were awarded a free kick on the left wing and Sean Burke swung the ball into the near post where Tiernan Murphy volleyed to the home net. Four minutes later they were awarded a penalty but missed from the spot. For the next thirty minutes the teams were well matched and Keane Dunne and Andrew Phelan came close to levelling the game. With eighteen played in the second half Tiernan Murphy added a second goal for Lough Harps and shortly afterwards Connor Hussey added a third. Tiernan Murphy completed his hat trick before Cormack Mc Donnell for the home side and James Reynolds for the visitors completed the scoring.

Moylough 79 and Roscommon United were involved in a twelve goal thriller at Roscommon before second in the table Moylough came out on top on an eight four score line.
Moylough raced into 2 – 0 lead after ten minutes thanks to Marcus Finn. James Collevery added a third five minutes later.
However Roscommon United struck back with Noel Carty and Craig Tarmey pulling two back before half time and John O Keeffe levelling the game ten minutes into the second half. Marcus Finn completed his hat trick for Moylough before James Bracken replied for Roscommon United. Brendan Donnellan scored again for Moylough before Kieran Knowles added three quick goals to secure all three points for a Moylough side who are eight points behind the leaders Lough Harps.

All the remaining games were postponed.
