Roscommon & District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes

The third round of the Connacht Cup took centre stage on Sunday and by and large it was a very good day for teams from the Roscommon and District league.

Skyvalley Rovers travelled to the Sligo/Leitrim Super league side Ballisodare and came away with an impressive 5 – 1 win. David Grehan opened the scoring for the Taughmaconnell side after fifteen minutes with a long range volley. Ten Minutes later Ethan Keogh won and converted a penalty kick for the winners. Andrew Patton pulled a goal back for Ballisodare with five played in the second half. David Grehan restored the two goals advantage after being set up by Mark Richardson and Mark Richardson then scored two for Skyvalley within ten minutes with help from Ken Kenny.

Fellow Premier Division side Dysart pulled off an excellent 3 – 1 win over the Mayo Premier Division Champions Ballyglass at Ballyglass. Dysart played against a strong wind in the first half and kept the game scoreless at the break. In the second half Ferdinand Coyne Andy Higgins and John Coyne scored three before Ballyglass pulled a goal back.

Moore United beat the Mayo League Premier Division side Claremorris 9 – 0 at Moore. The home side were 4 – 0 ahead at half time and stretched their lead in the second half. Mark Duignan got a hat trick and Alan Duffy and Mark Nicholson added two each with Enda Kenny and Andy Nevin adding one each.

Ballinasloe Town beat the Sligo super League side Aughannagh Celtic 3 – 2 at Ballinasloe. Mark Duffy and Darragh Concannon gave Ballinasloe a 2 – 0 half time lead and Darragh made 3 – 0 before the visitors pulled two back.

In an all Roscommon and District league Clash Ballaghaderreen beat fellow Premier side M D Town 5 – 2 at Dunmore. Tom Gleeson gave the home side a deserved lead and only two excellent saves by Dermott Horan kept Ballaghaderreen in the game. Just before half time Danny Browne levelled the game. In the second half Dillon Edwards scored two Gerry Ward and man of the match Cormack Rushe added one each with Tommy Wrynne scoring a second for a much improved M D Town side.

Cloonfad United were beaten 4 -1 at home by last seasons Connacht Cup Finalists Atherny. Atherny went 1 – 0 up in the first half and they were very fortunate not to have their keeper sent off when he downed David Keavney outside his penalty area. Morgan Lyons levelled the game from the resultant free kick. Atherny added three more within six minutes early in the second half.

Castlerea Celtic had a good 2 – 1 win over the Galway Premier side Colemanstown at Castlerea. Ronan Curran gave Castlerea Celtic a 1- 0 lead but the visitors levelled the game before half time. Peter Farrell scored the winner to secure a place in round four for Castlerea Celtic.

Ballymoe made the long journey to Annaghadown but were beaten 2 – 1 by Corrib Celtic. Keith Muldoon gave Ballymoe a 1 – 0 lead but Chris Greaney struck twice for Corrib Celtic.

The St Johns Athletic v Colga game was level at 3 – 3 at Lecarrow at the end of normal time before the referee called it off.

In the Connacht Shield Kilkerrin United lost 7 – 3 away to the Galway City side East United. Damien Mahon scored two and Jason Ward scored one for the Kilkerrin side.

The Ballinlough side Lough Harps had a great win away to the Galway side Medtronic’s. The game finished 2 – 2 at the end of extra time before Lough Harps won 6 – 5 on penalties. Sean Burke and Ronan Murphy scored for Lough harps

In Division 1 of the Roscommon and District League leaders Shiven Rovers had to come from 3 – 1 down to earn a point at home to Ahascragh United. Joe Hunt gave Ahascragh United a 1- 0 half time lead and Colin Concannon added a second with sixty five played. Michael Doyle pulled one back for the Newbridge side within five minutes but Kenny English restored the Ahascragh two goal advantage with fourteen minutes left to play. In the last ten minutes of the game Francis Kilcommins scored from the penalty spot and then from open play to snatch a point for Shiven Rovers.

Glen Celtic beat Rahara Rovers 6 – 0 in their Division 1 game at Glenamaddy. Kieran Trautt an Ryan Mc Hugh gave the winners a 2 – 0 lead at the break and Willie Comer scored two and Paul Dolan and Kieran Trautt added one each in the second half
Ballinasloe Town beat Ballaghaderreen 6 – 1 at Ballaghaderreen. Dillon Keane got four and Brian Campbell and Jason Touhy added one each. Owais replied for the losers

In Division 2 Moylough and C P Ajax drew 2 – 2 at Moylough. Marcus Finn scored first for Moylough from a Michael Kelly cross. Darren Boyle and Dominic Bligh scored for the Castleplunket side before Michael Kelly got an equaliser for Moylough.

Skyvalley Rovers beat MD Town 3-0 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell Keen Dunne Nigel Brooks and Damien Caulfield scored for the winners.

K C Celtic beat Cloonfad United 2 – 1 at Cloonfad. Marcus Devine scored two for the winner and Seamus Burke replied for the losers.

Roscommon United beat St Johns Athletic 4 – 0 at Roscommon. Jamie Bracken and Bernard Keogh in the first half and Brian Mongan and Jamie Bracken in the second half were the goal scorers.

Connacht Junior Cup 4th Round Draw The draw took place today for the 4th round of the Connacht Junior Cup. Ties are due to be played on the weekend of February 27th/28th.
