Roscommon & District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes

Roscommon and District League Premier side Moore United just failed to make the last sixteen of the prestigious FAI Junior Cup competition when they were beaten in a penalty shoot out by the powerful Cork City side Pearse Celtic at Falty park Moore.
While it was the first time in the history of the club to advance to this stage of the competition the Moore team and their supporters were very disappointed to loose out after being the better side during normal an extra time. Against the run of play Pearse Celtic scored midway through the first half and for the remainder of the game they defended in numbers and relied on counter attacks to add a second.
While Moore created many good chances on a heavy pitch they had to wait until the eighty -third minute of the game to get an equaliser. A well struck free kick by Mark Duignan reached Alan Duffy who made no mistake. With Moore committed to attacking football David Keenan made two good saves to deny the Togher side on the break. With no goals in the remainder of normal time or extra time the game went to a penalty shoot out. Unfortunately for the home side they were beaten 4 – 2 for the second year running.

Premier Division title contenders Ballaghaderreen were beaten 1 – 0 at home by Ballymoe F C. The home chance had a great chance to take an early lead but the ever dependable Lee Keenan missed from the penalty spot.
Daniel Malone scored for a much improved Ballymoe with sixty three minutes played.

Skyvalley Rovers beat Dysart 2- 1 in a local derby game at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. David Grehan and Mark Richardson gave the home side a 2 – 0 lead with nineteen minutes played. Johnny Coyne pulled a goal back ten minutes into the second half for Dysart but they failed to get am equaliser.

Ballinasloe Town had an impressive 4 – 0 win over a St Johns Athletic side who were previously on a good run of results. Centre backs Peter Keighery and Des Hope scored two and Liam Lynch and Darragh Concannon added two more for the winners.

In the only game played in Division 1 Loughglynn United drew 1 – 1 with Ballaghaderreen at Loughglynn. Stephen Foley gave Ballaghaderreen a 1 – 0 half time lead. However Barry Nolan latched onto a though ball with fifty five played and scored an equaliser for Loughglynn United

In Division 2 Skyvalley Rovers second side beat the Kilconnell side K C Celtic 4 – 0 at Taughmaconnell. The game was scoreless at half time but within a few minutes of the restart Lee Clogher broke the deadlock with a stunning volley. Shortly afterwards an own goal made it 2 – 0 for Skyvalley Rovers.
