Roscommon and District Leagoe Round up.

Last Sunday was a historic day for the Roscommon and District League because the first round of the first ever women’s Premier League was played. Congratulations to all the eight teams who played and their Management team and League Committee.

Boyle Celtic played their first competitive game and they beat Ballaghaderreen 3 – 0 at Boyle. Katie Walsh scored two and Sinead O Donoghue one for the winners.

Castlerea Celtic and Shiven Rovers were involved in a four goal thriller at Castlerea with the sides finishing level. Castlerea Celtic took the lead after forty minutes thanks to a Sarah Diggins volley but Shiven Rovers were level just before half time following good play by Lucy Dunnican. The Newbridge side took the lead after sixty eight minutes through a fine team effort finished by Maeve O Brien They looked like winning all three points but with time running out Sarah Diggins added a second for the Castlerea Celtic side.

Cam Celtic had an impressive 7 – 1 win over a very young St Cuans / Ahascragh united side at Cam. With Orla Donnelly Katie and Marian Nolan and Sarah O Rourke and Katie Hamrock in top form Cam were rarely troubled by the visitors. Katie Nolan scored four and Marian Nolan and Sarah O Rourke added two each and Alaine Morris added one while Carol Dunleavy replied for the losers

Colemanstown United played Kilkerrin United at Kilkerrin but it was the visitors who came out on top on a 4 -2 score line following an excellent game of football. Kilkerrin took an early lead but Philip Bee’s girls were soon level. However Kilkerrin went in front before half time and stretched their lead after the break with the home side closing the gap before the end.
Eimear Keane scored two and Aoife Smyth and Aisling Costello one for the winners with Sarah Kearney and Katie Delaney scored for Colemanstown

With two series of games played Ballinasloe Town and St Johns Athletic lead the points table having won both their opening games.
Ballinasloe Town had a rather comfortable if surprising 4 – 1 win over Moore United at Moore. Niall Stack struck early for a good Town side and Ryan Burke added a second from the penalty spot with twenty seven played. Jordan Carr set up Ryan who made 3 – 0 before half time. Niall Stack added a fourth for the winners with Mark Gannon pulling a goal back for the home side.

St Johns Athletic beat Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 1 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. Caimin Boland opened the scoring after thirty five and added a second before half time. Terry Mc Gowan pulled one back for the home side early in the second half and they were well in the game for the next twenty five minutes. However poor defending cost them dearly and Eamon Harney Aaron Flaherty and Cian Kelly added three more for the winners before the end.

The Boyle Celtic v Kilkerrin United game was postponed due to a bereavement at Kilkerrin.

Ballaghaderreen beat Moylough 79 3- 0 at Ballaghaderreen. Moylough had a great chance of taking the lead in the first half but missed from the penalty spot. Not to be outdone Ballaghaderreen also missed from the spot before half time. Calume Tansey finally broke the deadlock in the second half when he scored from play and Danny Browne and Ben Feeney added two more before the end.

In Division 1 Cup holders Shiven Rovers made it two wins out of two when they beat Ballinasloe Town 4 – 1 at Newbridge. Adam Farrell Seamie O Kelly and Conor French gave the home side a 3 – 0 half time lead. Andy Barrett added a fourth after sixty five with Petrut Girlamau pulling one back for the losers with ten minutes left to play.

Roscommon United secured their first point of the season when they drew 0 – 0 with Ballymoe FC at Roscommon.

The Cloonfad United v Dunmore Town game was abandoned early after the Dunmore player Callum Manhire injured his knee when he fell awkwardly. We wish a speedy recovery.

In the first round games in Division 2 St Cuans / Ahascragh United beat Glen Celtic 4 – 2 at Ahascragh. In a really close game Pat Mongan gave the home side a 1 – 0 lead at half time. Tom Mc Donagh Pat Mongan and and Kenny English added three more after the break with Ryan Mc Hugh and Michael Geary keeping Glen Celtic in the game until the end.

St Johns Athletic beat Dunmore second side 6 – 1 at Dunmore. Patrick Tiernan Aaron Flaherty John Mc Donald Mattie Donnelly Donald Ryan and Caimin Boland scored for the winners.

Rahara Rovers beat a very young Skyvalley Rovers second side 7–1 at Rahara. Man of the Match Jamie Tiernan scored four and Liam Naughton Conor Cavanagh and Shane Mc Cormack added one each. John Shaughnessy replied for the losers.
