Roscommon and District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes.

Castlerea Celtic recovered from a defeat the previous week to beat Cloonfad United in their third game in the Raftery's Oakland Hotel Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League at Castlerea. Peter Farrell gave the home side a 1 - 0 lead with thirty seven played. John Noone replied for Cloonfad United three minutes into the second half but Paul Mee scored the winner for Castlerea Celtic with seventy six played.

Skyvalley Rovers picked up their first three points of the season when they beat a young Strokestown side 6 - 2 at Strokestown. David Grehan and Colm O’Brien gave the home side a 2 - 0 half time lead. David Grehan added his second just after half time. Cian Lavelle pulled a goal back for the home side but David Grehan added two more and Colm O’Brien one for the winners before Thomas Hanly scored a second for the home side.

The games between Ballinasloe Town and Boyle Celtic and Kilkerrin United and Shiven Rovers were postponed as a mark of Respect to the late Peter Keighery and Carmel Martin. May they rest in peace.

In the only game played in the Killeen Sports Grounds Division Two, Skyvalley Rovers beat Ballymoe FC 2 - 1 at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. Andrew Phelan opened the scoring for the winners after only five minutes of play and Liam Creavin added a second before half time. Ballymoe missed from the penalty spot before David Swift scored for the second week in succession for Ballymoe.

The Preliminary Round of the TP Brennan Sponsored Connacht Cup was played on Sunday with only teams from Divisions One and Two involved but overall it was a disappointing day for local sides.

St. John’s Athletic beat the Mervue United second side 2 - 0 at lecarrow. The home side were 2 - 0 up at half time thanks to Tommy Hurley and Michael Hannon and they held on comfortably in the second half.

St. Cuan’s United were unlucky to lose 2 - 1 at home to the Mayo side Conn Rangers. Luke Concannon scored for the home side in the second half.

Rahara Rovers had to battle all the way before overcoming the Galway League side Cregmore/Claregalway at Rahara. The visitors took the lead with seventy played thanks to a Davy Tarpey strike and Marcos levelled the game eleven minutes later. The game went to extra time with Liam Kenny scoring the winner five minutes into the first period.

Dunmore Town defeated Bearna Na Forbacha 3 - 1 at Dunmore. Ryan Fox gave the home side a goal advantage at the break and while the visitors scored in the second half Ryan Fox and David Burke secured a place for Dunmore Town in round one of the Connacht Cup.

Cam Celtic were beaten 5 -1 at home by a very strong Corrib Rangers side and Roscommon United were beaten 4 - 1 away to the Galway side Tuam Celtic. Carl Garvin scored for the Town side.

Castlerea Celtic's second side and the Mayo side Partry and were involved in an eleven goal thriller. Unfortunately for the Castlerea side they were beaten 7 - 4. Kyle Lowrey (2), Cian Mahony and Michael Goulding scored the four for Castlerea Celtic in the second half.

"Turning of the Sod" for the John Sherlock Stand CEO of the FAI, Mr. John Delaney will officially "turn the sod" on the John Sherlock Stand at the RDFL Grounds, Lecarrow on Wednesday 3rd October at 6pm.
