Boyle Celtic returned to the top of the Raftery’s Oakland Hotel Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following a 4 – 2 win over Ballymoe FC at Ballymoe.
Liam McKillian and Michael Corrigan gave the winners a 2 – 0 advantage at half time. Michael Corrigan added his second shortly after the resumption. James Connaughton and Damien Goggins pulled two back for Ballymoe before Michael Corrigan completed his hat trick. Boyle Celtic and St. Peter’s are now tied on twenty six points after eleven games played and five remaining.
The game was spoiled by an injury to young Jack Donnellan, the Ballymoe Keeper. Best wishes from everyone in the league for a speedy recovery.
Ballinasloe Town are still very much in the title race following a hard earned 2 – 1 win over Kilkerrin United at Kilkerrin. They are just a point behind the leaders with a game in hand. A good cross from Declan Duffy found Joe Hunt at the far post and his knock down was volleyed to the Kilkerrin net by Liam Lynch. Kilkerrin United were soon level with Damien Mahon scoring following a corner kick. Ballinasloe regained the lead just before half time when a David Cullen cross reached Aidan Dooney who finished from close range. Kilkerrin United came close but failed to getting an equaliser in the second half.
Moore United all but ended their relegation worries with a 5 – 2 win away to Shiven Rovers at Newbridge. The home side took the lead after twenty minutes when Francis Kilcommins converted a penalty kick. Andy Nevin levelled the game and Ronan Keogh headed a second for Moore from a corner kick. Andy Neven gave Moore United a 3 – 1 lead when he converted a penalty kick just before half time. Mark Butler made it 4 – 1 when he converted a penalty kick after Andy Nevin was fouled. The fourth penalty kick of the game went Shiven Rovers way and Francis Kilcommins scored. Shane Pettit completed the scoring with five minutes of play remaining.
Skyvalley Rovers (pictured top) eased their relegation worries with a 4 – 3 win over Dysart (pictured above) at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. In a game that could have gone either way Dysart took the lead after fourteen minutes when Keith Waldron got on the end of a Diarmuid Coyne free kick. Callum O'Brien volleyed an equaliser with thirty-four played and only some excellent saves by Brian Croffey for the home side and Nigel Kelly for Dysart kept the scoring at 1 – 1 at the break. David Grehan won and converted a penalty kick for the home side with ten played in the second half and Evan Kelly and Garry Patten combined to create an opening for David Grehan and he made it 3 – 1. Evan Kelly made it 4 -1 for the winners with seven minutes left to play but Niall Corbett and Cathal Mears scored two for the losers near the end of the game.
Cloonfad United had a good 4 – 1 win over Strokestown United at Strokestown, Morgan Lyons gave Cloonfad a 1 – 0 lead after fourteen minutes but Garry Connellan levelled the game with thirty five played. Dylan Ruane restored the Cloonfad lead just before half time and Morgan Lyons and Shaun Kearney added two more for the winners in the second half.
In the Norio's Takeaway Division One, St. John’s Athletic kept their hopes of promotion alive with a 3 – 1 win over Ballinasloe Town at Lecarrow. David McDonnell gave the visitors a 1 – 0 lead with twenty played and Tommy Hurley levelled the game with thirty-five played. Ultan Kelly won a penalty kick for St. John’s with fifty-four played and Tommy Hurley converted the resultant spot kick. Michael Hannon added a third for the winners with fifteen minutes left to play.
Cam Celtic beat Ballaghaderreen 2 – 0 at Cam. Robbie Fallon and Gareth Mulligan scored the goals.
In the Killeen Sports Grounds Division Two, Manor United and Castlerea Celtic drew 2 – 2 at Dunmore. Castlerea Celtic were two up with thirty five played thanks to Martin Foster. However, Joe Murphy pulled a goal back before half time and Steve McCormack scored a deserved equaliser for Manor United in the second half. Castlerea Celtic stay a point clear of Glen Celtic and Roscommon United with Manor United in joint fourth place with Shiven Rovers five points behind the leaders.
Roscommon United beat Skyvalley Rovers 2 – 1 at Roscommon. Jamie Bracken scored in each half for the winners with Padraig Downey pulling a goal back for the losers with a well taken free kick with ten minutes left to play.
Cloonfad United beat the Castleblakeney side St. Cuan’s United 5 – 2 at Cloonfad. James McDonagh and Sean Burke scored for the home side and Luke Concannon and David Ward replied for the losers in the first half. After the break veteran Cormack Costello scored two and Sean Burke one for Cloonfad United.
