Roscommon and District League Round-up by Vincent Brookes.

Congratulations are extended to St. Peter's, Athlone (pictured above) who are the new Roscommon and District League Champions. After twenty two Premier Division League games they finished just a single point ahead of second placed Ballinasloe Town.
St. Peter's travelled to Castlerea in their last league game needing just a draw against Castlerea Celtic. After a tight game St. Peter's drew 0 – 0 to get the required point.

Ballinasloe Town won their last league game against Shiven Rovers but had to settle for second spot. Liam and Mick Lynch gave Ballinasloe a 2 – 0 lead at half time and Mark Duffy and Des Hope added two more after the break.

At the other end of the table Skyvalley Rovers ended their relegation worries with a 4- 0 win away to Cloonfad United. David Grehan scored for the winners with a well struck free kick after two minutes and Jack Moore added a second after thirty five. Emit Kelly made it 3 – 0 with sixty-two played and David Grehan beat two defenders before adding his second with ten minutes left to play

Dysart FC will play the Dvision One side Hodson Bay Athletic in a Promotion-Relegation play off. They beat Moore United 2 – 1 at Dysart. Mark Higgins gave Dysart a 1 – 0 lead after twenty-four minutes with John Mulvey levelling the game with seventy played. Diarmuid Coyne scored the winner near the end much to the relief of the Dysart players and supporters.

St. John's Athletic will play in Division One next season after failing to get anything from their home game against a strong Boyle Celtic side. A very young St. John's side found themselves 2 – 0 down at half time and threw all caution to the wind in the second half before loosing 8 – 2.
Niall Brennan struck two for the winners in the first half. Dylan Edwards added three more and Aaron Calpin two, before Niall Brennan added his third. Darragh Keenan scored both goals for the losers.

Congratulations are extended to Kilkerrin United who completed the treble when they beat Hodson Bay Athletic 2 – 1 in the First Division Cup Final. Kilkerrin United had already won the Division One Championship and the Connacht Shield and were expected to win easily. However Hodson Bay Athletic were well on top in the opening stages and missed three good chances to take the lead. In their first real attack of the game Declan Murphy opened the scoring for Kilkerrin with a neat volley to the Kiltoom sides net. Just before half time Keith Mahon was taken down and Declan Murphy converted the resultant penalty kick to give Kilkerrin a 2 – 0 half time lead.

In the second minute of the second half a deep cross by Mark Grehan took a slight deflection and ended in the net to give Hodson Bay Athletic a life line. However the winners defended in numbers and held out for a win.

Moylough '79 (pictured below) had their first major success in the Roscommon and District League when they sealed the Division Two Championship at Rahara. In the deciding game of the season Moylough needed a win or a draw to be Division Two Champions. Following an exciting game Moylough secured the all important point with a 1 – 1 draw.
Michael Kelly opened the scoring for Moylough after foutry-nine minutes with a close range shot. The Brazilian Marcos levelled the game with fifty-eight minutes played and while Vando saw a volley come back off the post Moylough held on for the win.
