Roscommon and District League Round-up by Vincent Brookes

St Peter's FC (pictured) are three points clear at the top of the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following an emphatic 11 - 0 win over Cloonfad United at Lecarrow. A single point from their remaining game away to Castlerea Celtic will see them crowned Premier Division Champions. Mark McConnell scored two and Garry Stephens, Garvan Broughal and Henry Odia added one each to give the winners a 5 – 0 half time lead over a side with little to play for. After the break Noel McGee scored three, Mark Sherlock two and Henry Odia one for the winners.

St. John's Athletic took a major step towards avoiding relegation when they beat Castlerea Celtic 2 – 1 at Castlerea. The man of the match was surely the St John's Athletic keeper Sean Coyle as he saved two penalty kicks to earn his side the three points.
Nathan Bligh gave Castlerea Celtic a 1 – 0 lead after twenty five minutes of play. Within five minutes the visitor's centre half Anthony Beades levelled with a brilliant left footed volley. Just before half time Sean Coyle saved a spot kick while John Drummond gave St. John's Athletic a 2 – 1 lead with fourteen minutes left to play. With five left to play Coyle saved again from a penalty kick.

Dysart FC received the points from their game against Ballaghaderreen FC.

The shock of the day was at Moylough where the home side beat last season's cup-finalists, Ballymoe FC. As a result the Division Two leaders are through to the Challenge Cup Semi-Finals. Moylough '79 played really well against the Premier Division side with James Fahy and Aridas particularly impressive. There were no scores in normal time but in the first period of extra time Aridas scored what turned out to be the winner.

Kilkerrin United continued their impressive run of wins with a 3 – 2 win over the Castleplunket side CP Ajax at Tarmon. As a result they will now play Hodson Bay Athletic in the Division One Cup final at Lecarrow next Saturday evening.
Daniel Connolly gave the Castleplunket side and early lead but Declan Murphy struck twice before half time for Kilkerrin. Murphy completed his hat trick before Sean Joyce scored a second for the losers with ten minutes left to play.

The Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic are through to the Division Two Cup final following a 3 - 0 win over Cam Celtic at Glenamaddy. A Ryan McHugh score and a thirty metre volley from Simon Stachurski gave the winners a two goal cushion at the break and Simon Stachurski added a third in the second half. Glen Celtic will play Moylough in the final.

In the Masters League, Skyvalley Rovers drew 1 – 1 with CB Trotters, Cam Celtic drew 1 - 1 with Glen Celtic and Ballinasloe Town beat Dunmore Town 1 – 0.
