Roscommon and District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes.

Roscommon and District League Premier Division side St. Peter's FC just failed to make it to the Connacht Final when beaten 2 – 1 by the Galway City side Mervue United at the League Grounds, Lecarrow.
The Athlone side played with a very strong wind in the first half and completely dominated the opening period. Only some good saves by the Mervue keeper, Peter Healy and last ditch tackles kept St. Peter's scoreless.
With fourteen minutes played and in their first attack of the game Mervue scored. A good cross from Jason Mollow was headed to the Peter's net by the unmarked Eoin Concannon. The home side were badly shaken and conceded a second with forty three played. This time Jason Molloy again supplied the cross and Aaron Finnerty scored the goal. St Peter's were much better in the second half and and were rewarded when after ten minutes of play when a good cross by Ryan Carbery was volleyed to the Mervue net by Mark Sherlock. Mark McConnell and Mark Sherlock came close to levelling the game near the end but Mervue held out to win.

Last season's Cup finalists Ballymoe FC are through to this seasons Quarter-Finals and a meeting with Moylough '79 following a comfortable 4 – 1 win over fellow Premier side Shiven Rovers at Newbridge. Daniel Malone added two more and Mark Kilcommins one to give the winners a 4 – 0 half time cushion. While the home side were much better in the second half and Shane Harkin pulled a goal back, they never looked like bridging the gap.

Ballinasloe Town are still in with a good chance of winning the Premier Division following a 5 – 0 win over St. John's Athletic at Lecarrow.
