Congratulations are extended to St Peters F C who secured the Roscommon and District League Premier Division Championship following a 3 - 2 win over Castlerea Celtic at Mc Carthy Park Athlone on Saturday evening.
This game was to be played in the middle of March but was postponed due to Coved 19. Going into the game Castlerea Celtic only needed a draw to be crowned champions but what ever the reason they only played to their full potential for about twenty five of the ninety minutes.
Overall St Peters were the better side and had the outstanding player in Mark Sherlock who scored two goals and made the third for his side.
Playing with the wind in the first half Castlerea played the ball long but rarely tested the Peters keeper. With fourteen minutes played a good passing move down the left wing created an opening for Mark Shertock and he headed to the Castlerea Celtic net. The first real chance created by Castlerea Celtic came after thirty three minutes but a fine volley by Daniel Connolly came back off the underside of the Peters cross bar.
Three minutes later Castlerea Celtic won a corner kick which was headed back across goal by Darren Clabby and Jack Higgins scored from close range.
With only two minutes played of the second half played Mark Sherlock somehow found a little space on the edge of the Castlerea Celtic penalty area and volleyed a super goal for his side.
Twelve minutes later Sherlock won a free kick in much the same place and Darragh Concannon scored a third for the winners.
With thirty eight played neat passing from the Castlerea Celtic side created an opening for Peter Farrell and he scored a second for the visitors. Despite having the majority of play in the closing stages Castlerea Celtic failed to break down a well organised Peters defence who held on to made it three Premier Division titles in a row.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division Skyvalley Rovers gave themselves a fighting chance of continuing to play in the Premier Division next season when they beat Shiven Rovers 3 - 1 at Newbridge. David Grehan gave them a 1 - 0 lead with twelve played but Aidan Mc Inerney levelled the game nine minutes later.
Grehan added a second early in the second half and young Conal Moore made sure of all three points when he scorer following some neat play near the end.

Moore United had an impressive 3- 1 win away to St Johns Athletic. With no scores in the first half it was Andy Nevin who broke the deadlock when he scored for Moore in second half. Josh Lennon added a second before Jamie Tiernan pulled a goal back for St Johns Athletic. Shane Dunning secured three valuable points for Moore United when he scored their third. All four goals came in the last quarter of the game.

In the Division 1Championship Dysart went top of the table when they beat neighbours Rahara Rovers 2 - 0 at Rahara. Cathal Mears in the first half and Andy Higging in the second half were the goal scorers.

Ballaghaderreen moved into second place following their 4 - 0 win over the Castleplunket side C Ajax at Tarmon. They rea two points behind the leaders Dysart but with two games less played. Bruce Holton opened the scoring with a well struck free kick after twenty five minutes. Patrick Callaghan added a second on the hour mark and Danny Browne and Leon Sinnott added two more before the end of the game.

Cloonfad United lost ground on the leaders when held to a 1- 1 draw away at Dunmore. Thomas Gleeson scored for the home side who were on top for most of the game. Sean Burke struck for Cloonfad United with eighty five played and while they were the better side in the closing stages they failed to get a winner.

With the Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic already crowned Champions Manor United remain on track for the runners up trophies in Division 2 after beating Skyvalley Rovers second side 3 - 0 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. Patrick O Connor and Niall Devaney gave them a 2- 0 half time lead and Patrick O Connor showed his goal poaching ability to get his second near the end.

Boyle Celtic beat Moore Unitesd 5 - 0 at Boyle in a game that had no real importance for either side. Conor Deery scored three and Daniel Hughes and Dermott Beggan added one each.

Cloonfad United beat St Johns Athletic 1- 0 away at Leacarrow. Jack Reinhardt scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

Ballaghaderreen are challinging for the Division 2 Shield and they beat Roscommon United 4 - 2 ar Ballaghaderreen. Ronan Callaghan and James Dowd scored two each for the winners. AAron Langon and Dean Conlon replied for the losers.
