In the Raftery's Oakland Hotel sponsored Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League both Ballymoe FC and Castlerea Celtic closed the gap on leaders Boyle Celtic to a single point following wins over Cloonfad United and Kilkerrin United respectively.
Ballymoe FC, who have a game less played, had a comfortable 8 – 0 win over a weakened Cloonfad United side at Cloonfad. The winners took advantage of a strong wind in the first half and raced into a 4 – 0 lead. David Keegan and Damien Goggins scored two each and James Connaughton one in the first half and after the break Adrian Collins, John Connaughton and Damien Collins added one each.
Castlerea Celtic were made to battle all the way before overcoming a determined Kilkerrin United side at a wet and windy Kilkerrin. Oisin McGann gave the home side the perfect start when he scored after only one minute of play. Paul Mee replied for Castlerea Celtic with thirty played. With ten minutes left to play Kieran Gannon restored the Kilkerrin lead but in a hectic few minutes near the end Gerry Ward and Damien Freyne scored for the experienced Castlerea Celtic side to take all three points.
Last season’s champions St. Peter’s are three points behind the leaders following a 6 – 2 win over Skyvalley Rovers at the League Grounds, Lecarrow. David Grehan gave Skyvalley Rovers an early lead with a long range volley. St. Peter’s struck back with three before David Grehan made it 3 – 2. The winners added one more before half time and scored two more after the break.
Ballinasloe Town are also three points behind the leaders but with a game in hand. They beat Shiven Rovers 4 – 0 at Newbridge. Despite playing against the strong wind in the first half the winners were 1 – 0 up thanks to Joe Hunt. After the break Des Hope scored two and Liam Lynch one for the winners.
Moore United beat Dysart 3 – 0 at Moore. The Dysart keeper Noel Fallon made some good saves in the first half but could not prevent Ronan Keogh heading Moore in front with fifty-six played. Alex Francis scored his first goal for Moore ten minutes later and Andy Nevin added a third for the winners with ten minutes left to play.
In the only game in the Norio's Takeaway Division One, Rahara Rovers beat Ballinasloe Town 3 – 2 at Ballinasloe. James Kinsella opened the scoring for Ballinasloe Town early in the game with the Brazilian Eze levelling the game before half time. After the break Henry Loughnane scored for the home side before Vando added two for Rahara Rovers to take all three points.
Castlerea Celtic beat the Castleblakeney side St. Cuan’s United 5 – 2 at Castlerea and they are now three points clear at the top of the Division Two points table. Jordan O’Leary opened the scoring for the visitors after twenty-one minutes but Kevin Flanagan created an opening for Andrew Lyons who levelled the game with twenty six played. Lyons struck again just before half time to give Castlerea Celtic a 2 – 1 lead. Colin Concannon leveled the game with fifty-eight played but four minutes later Kyle Lowry restored the lead for the home side. Near the end of the game Andrew Lyons and Joey Flanagan made sure of the points with two more scores for Castlerea Celtic.
Nearest challengers Manor United were beaten 2 – 1 away to Shiven Rovers. The home side were 1- 0 ahead at half time thanks to an own goal. Michael Doyle added a second with sixty two played. Paddy McCormack pulled one back for Manor near the end but the Newbridge side held on to take all three points.
