Roscommon and District league Round up by Vincent Brookes

Congratulations are extended to the Newbridge based Shiven Rovers who were crowned Division 1 Champions following two wins over the weekend. They have won thirteen of their fifteen Division 1 games and are the only team in the three divisions undefeated.
On Friday they beat Loughglynn United 5 – 0 at Newbridge. Michael Doyle scored two in the first ten minutes and Shane Harkin Keith Murphy and Joe Horan added three more before the end.
On Sunday they beat nearest challengers Ballinasloe 5 – 2 at Ballinasloe. The teams were well matched until midway through the second half when the Newbridge side pulled away with two scores.
Aidan Mc Inerney scored two and Eoghan Mc Donagh Shane Harkin and Padraig Delaney scored for Shiven Rovers with Warren Coyne and James Kinsella replied for Ballinasloe.

In the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District league Moore United closed the Gap on leaders Ballinasloe Town to a single point with a game in hand following a 5 – 0 win over Cloonfad United at Falty Park Moore. Alan Duffy scored two and Declan and Ian Duffy and Andy Nevin getting one each for the Moore side.

Ballaghaderreen are right back in contention following their 9 – 4 win over Dysart at Ballaghaderreen. This was a very open game and overall the scoreline did not fully reflect the balance of play.
Eamon Ryan scored two and Gerry Ward and Cormack Rushe one each to give the home side a 4 – 1 half time lead. Lee Keenan scored four and Danny Browne one in the second half to complete the Ballaghaderreen scoring. Jonathan Kiernan James Corbett Karl Garvin and Paul Higgins replied for Dysart.

Skyvalley Rovers (pictured at top) had a narrow 1 – 0 win over St Johns Athletic (pictured above) at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. It was a game that could have gone either way with the home keeper Eoghan Hardiman and St Johns keeper Sean Coyle in top form. The only goal of the game was scored from the penalty spot by Ethan Keogh with four minutes left to play. Ken Kenny David Grehan and Cormack Clogher played their part in the build up before David Cullen taken down in the penalty area.

Castlerea Celtic kept their hopes of catching the leaders alive when the beat M D Town 2 – 0 at Castlerea on Friday evening and beat Ballymoe F C 2 – 1 at Newbridge on Sunday. Against the Milltown Dunmore side Enda Foster volleyed their first from thirty five meters with fifty one played. Eight Minutes later Dominic Bligh headed their second following good work and a good cross from Aaron Keane.
Against Ballymoe Ronan Curran scored for Castlerea Celtic in the first half and while Danny Malone had the sides level at half time it was to be Dominic Bligh who scored the decider for Castlerea Celtic in the second half.

Loughglynn United beat Glen Celtic 5 – 4 in a thriller at Loughglynn. The home side were 3 – 1 down in the first half but battled back to win. Barry Nolan scored three for Loughglynn and Liam Coleman and Jimmie Flanagan added one each. Ryan Mc Hugh scored two and Willie Comer and Kieran Trautt added one each for the losers.

Ahascragh United received a walk over Rahara Rovers.

In Division 2 the Ballinlough side Lough Harps are within touching distance on the Division 2 title despite being held to a 1- 1 draw at Ballinlough by Skyvalley Rovers. Andrew Phelan gave the Taughmaconnell side a first half advantage and Kevin Lynch got an equaliser for Lough Harps with seventy minutes played.

The Castleplunket side C P Ajax kept their title hopes alive when they beat Moore United 4 – 0. Ciaran Harkin scored three and Shane Smith one for the winners. Roscommon United picked up the points from their game away to K c Celtic as did MD Town away to St Johns Athletic.
