Roscommon and District league Round up by Vincent Brookes

The fourth round of the Connacht Cup took centre stage today and overall it was a bad day for teams from the Roscommon and District League.

Premier Division leaders Ballinasloe Town (pictured above) showed all their skill and experience when they had an excellent 4 – 0 win over Castlebar Celtic away at Castlebar. The visitors shocked the home support by racing into a 3 – 0 lead in the first half with goals from Mark Duffy, Peter Keighery and Liam Lynch. Jordan O'Leary added a fourth in the second half.

Skyvalley Rovers had a bad day and were beaten 1 – 0 by the Galway League Division 1 side Renmore at Renmore.

Castlerea Celtic were a bit unlucky to loose 2 – 0 away to the Galway Premier side Mervue United. Castlerea Celtic created many scoring chances and saw the ball come back off the Mervue post on two occasions before the home side scored. Barry Moran scored one in each half for the winners.

Dysart were beaten 4 – 1 away to the Galway Premier side West United. Johnny Coyne scored their goal.

Moore United were surprisingly beaten 2 – 1 by the NUI Galway second side at Galway.

St Johns Athletic were beaten 3 – 1 away to Ballina Town. Tommie Hurley scored their goal.

In the Connacht Shield Division 1 leaders Shiven Rovers came from behind away to Loughrea F C and were leading 2 – 1 with five minutes left to play. They then conceded two goals in a minute before loosing 3 – 2. Shane Harkin scored their two goals.

The Ballinlough side Lough Harps (pictured above) were involved in an eight goal thriller at Ballinlough before they were beaten 5 – 3 after extra time by the Galway side Barna Furbo United.
Lough Harps were 3 – 0 ahead with sixty five played thanks to scores from Kevin Lynch Michael Golden and Stephen Comer. However the Barna Furbo side, with four ex league of Ireland player in their side, struck back and scored there late goals to send the game to extra time. In extra time they added two more to go through to the fourth round.

In the Norio’s Division 1 Kilkerrin United beat Rahara Rovers 3 – 0 at Rahara. Damien Mahon scored their first and Keith Mc Mahon converted a penalty kick before Tommie Curley completed the scoring in a game that was much closer than the scoreline suggests.

A young Loughglynn United side were beaten 2 – 0 at Loughglynn by a much improved Ahascragh United side. Both teams created many chances in an exciting game with Kenny English finally breaking the deadlock with eighteen minutes played in the second half. Colin Concannon sealed all three points for Ahascragh United when he scored a second ten minutes later.

Ballinasloe Town were held to a 1- 1 draw at home to Glen Celtic. Luke Connelly opened the scoring for the Glenamaddy side after twenty five minutes of play and Brian Campbell got an equaliser five minutes later.

In Division 2 Moore United drew 1 – 1 with Cloonfad United at Moore. James Mc Donagh gave Cloonfad United a deserved lead after only five minutes and Shane Kenny replied for Moore United three minutes later.

The Castleplunket side C P Ajax beat M D Town 4 – 1 at Milltown. The Castleplunket side were 1 – 0 ahead thanks to an own goal and Dean Burns added a second before Damian Fetherstone added two more. Shane Gleeson scored for the Milltown Dunmore side.

Moylough received a walkover from KC Celtic.
