Roscommon & District League Round-Up by Vincent Brookes

Ballinasloe Town go to the top of the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following a 1 – 0 win over Skyvalley Rovers at the Curragh Grounds Ballinasloe. The home side were the better side in the first half and only two great saves by the Skyvalley Rovers keeper Eoin Hardiman kept them in the game.

The Taughmaconnell side had the majority of possession in the second half but conceded a goal against the run of play with thirteen minutes left to play. A deep cross from the left wing by Jordan O Leary was headed back across goal by Liam Lynch and Mark Duffy headed to the Skyvalley Rovers net.

Moore United are just a point behind the leaders with two games less played. They had an impressive 3- 0 win over the Milltown Dunmore side MD Town at Milltown. Cathal O Sullivan Declan and Alan Duffy scored the goals for a hard working Moore United side.

Ballymoe F C eased away from the relegation area thanks to a 2 – 0 win over St Johns Athletic at Lecarrow. The game was scoreless at half time but early in the second half John Connaughton headed a Jason Tarmey corner kick to the St Johns net. Damien Conboy son of the former great Martin made sure of the three points when he volleyed a second for Ballymoe FC. They are now in fourth place in the points table.

The Newbridge based Shiven Rovers took a giant step towards winning the Division 1 Championship when they beat second placed Brazukas 1 – 0 at Newbridge. Much to the delight of Managers Sean Gavin and Padraig Mannion-Shane Harkin volleyed the winner from the edge of the penalty area after twenty five minutes of play.
Having played eleven games Shiven now have a ten point lead on nearest challengers Brazukas but Brazukas have two games less played.

Glen Celtic moved into fourth place following an impressive 4 – 1 win over Ballinasloe Town at Ballinasloe. Man of the match David Keegan opened the scoring for the winners after twelve minutes and Eugene Morgan added their second with twenty five played. Brian Campbell pulled a goal back for Ballinasloe Town before half time but in the second half Simon Stachurski and Eugene Morgan added two more.

In Division 2 leaders Lough Harps stretched their lead at the top of the points table to six points following a hard earned 1 – 0 win over Moylough 79 at Urlar.
Sean Moran gave the Ballinlough side a 1 – 0 lead when he converted a free kick with three minutes remaining in the first half.
With Moylough on top in the second half it required three outstanding saves from keeper Rory Mannion and some great play by man of the match Michael Golden to keep Lough Harps ahead until the final whistle.

Skyvalley Rovers are in second place six points behind the leaders following a 2 – 1 win away to Moore United. Moore United were well on top in the first half but failed to convert the many chances that came their way. Near the end of the game David Grehan scored twice for the winners with Damien Conlon scoring earlier for Moore United.

All the remaining games were victims of the bad weather
