Roscommon & District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes

Congratulations are extended to Roscommon and district league Premier Division side Moore United who advanced to the Last thirty two in the FAI Junior Cup following a convincing 6 – 1 win over the Mayo league side Claremorris at Falty Park Moore on Friday Evening. Moore United will face the Cork AUL side Pearce Celtic at Moore with a place in the last sixteen at stake in this prestigious national competition.
Ian Duffy David Harrington and Mark Nicholson gave the home side were 3 – 1 half time lead and Kevin Kenny Alan Duffy and Declan Duffy added three more in the second half.

In the Premier Division title holders Ballinasloe Towne beat Ballaghaderreen who were last seasons runners up 1 – 0 at Ballinasloe. In an exciting game with both teams creating many scoring chances a single score separated the teams at the end. Mark Duffy scored the only goal of the game following a Liam Lynch cross with fifty seven minutes played.

With more than half their programme of matches played Shiven Rovers are nine points ahead of second placed Brazukas in the Division 1 points table. They beat a weakened Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic 8 – 0 at Newbridge. Aidan Mc Inerney gave them a 2 – 0 lead after nine minutes and Shane Harkin Eric Walsh Mike Doyle and Aidan Mc Inerney added four more before the break. Michael Doyle and Joe Horan added scored two for the winners after the break.

In Division 2 the Castleplunket side C P Ajax drew 2 – 2 with Cloonfad at Cloonfad. Ger Fagan scored first for Cloonfad United and Eric Braz and Darren Boyle replied for the Castleplunket side before Ger Fagan won a point for Cloonfad United with a late equaliser.
Skyvalley Rovers beat St Johns Athletic 3 – 2 at Taughmaconnell. Jordan Kennedy struck first for St Johns Athletic with Keane Dunne levelling the game. Kennedy restored the St Johns lead with twenty five minutes left to play. However David Grehan scored two in the closing stages to win all three points for the home side.

All the remaining games were postponed.
