RDFL round-up for weekending 30th August by Vincent Brookes.

This weekend saw the start of the forty sixth season of football for the Roscommon and District League. Current champions Ballinasloe Town were beaten away by Moore United who finished in third place last season. Moore got off to the perfect start with Mark Nicholson heading a Mark Duignan cross to the Ballinasloe Town net. The home side dominated the first half and should have added a couple more before the break. Ballinasloe Town came more into the game in the second half but had Shane Duffy sent off with sixty minutes played. In the closing stages they came close to getting an equaliser but saw a close range shot come back off the post.

Last season's runners up Ballaghaderreen beat Ballymoe 6 – 1 at Ballaghaderreen. The visitors were doing alright up to half time with Mark Kilcommins keeping the scores level at 1 – 1. However a sending off and an injury ended the visitors hopes of winning a point. Dillon Edwards scored two and Lee Keegan, Eamon Ryan, Shane Towey and Gerry Ward scored for the winners.

Skyvalley Rovers travelled to Cloonfad United and came away with a 2 – o win. Ethan Keogh volleyed them in front with thirty five played and John Galvin was in the right place to add a second with sixty seven minutes played.

Dysart travelled to Dunmore and beat M D Town 4 -3. It was the first time ever for the Milltown Dunmore side to play in the Premier Division. Keith Waldron scored two and John and James Coyne added one each.

In the Norio’s take away Division One, Kilkerrin United beat Ahascragh United 3 – 2 away at Ahascragh. Darren Harewood opened the scoring for Ahascragh with only five played. Keith Mahon converted a penalty kick and Tommy Curley added a second for the winners with twenty nine played. Colm Dillon scored the third for Kilkerrin with sixty six played and while Colin Touhy-Maloney pulled one back for the losers they ran out of time to get an equaliser.

Glen Celtic beat a weakened Rahara Rovers side 6 – 0 at Rahara. David Keegan and Ben Conneely gave them a 2 – 0 half time lead. In the second half David Keegan completed his hat trick and Peter Keavney and Willie Comer added one each.

Shiven Rovers drew 1 – 1 at home to the Brazilian side Brazukas. Aidan Mc Inerney scored for the Newbridge and Lucas De Paula replied for a competent Brazukas side.

In the Killeen’s Sports grounds Division Two the Kilconnell side KC Celtic beat Cloonfad United 2 – 0 at Cloonfad. Alan Devine scored both goals for Tim Broderick’s men in the second half.
