The first round of the Connacht Cup took centre stage on Sunday with teams from the Roscommon and District League doing reasonably well.

Cloonfad United travelled to the Galway side Killtullagh Pioneers and following a hectic game they came out on top following a 4 – 2 penalty shoot-out win.
The home side were 2 – 0 ahead at half time and while Mathew Frayne pulled one back for Cloonfad United the home side restored their two goal advantage with twenty played in the second half. A splendid save by the Cloonfad Keeper Pauric Miskell kept his side in the game and Darragh Flynn scored two great goals to send the game to extra time. With no goals in extra time the game went to a penalty shoot-out and two good saves by Pauric Miskell ensured a 4 – 2 win for Cloonfad and a place in Round 2.

Ballinagare / Manor United were beaten 3 – 1 away to Ballisodare. The sides were well matched in the first half but the home side were in control in the second. Joe Bottom scored for the visitors.

Ballymoe F C had a bad start in their home game against Corofin and paid the price when they were beaten 4 – 3 in a game they might have won. The visitors were 3 -1 ahead at half time and while the home side came close they just could not overcome the deficit. Damien Goggins scored two and Owen Morgan one for Ballymoe with Toto scoring three and Gerry Coen one for the winners.

The Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic had an impressive 4 -3 win away to Cois Fharraige. A Willie Comer penalty kick gave Glen Celtic a 1- 0 lead. However they conceded two before the half time break and were 3 -1 down with sixty five played. Michael Heneghan and Gavin Hegarty had the sides level before Ryan scored the winner for Glen Celtic with five minutes left to play.

Moylough 79 travelled to Erris but were beaten 2 – 0 by Iorras Aonthaithe.

Skyvalley Rovers travelled to the Sligo Leitrim League side Dromahair and were comfortable 6 – 1 winners. Cormack Moore scored two and Eoin Keogh Mike Donoghue Danny Lynch and Emit Kelly added one each for the Taughmaconnell side.
St Cuans / Ahascragh United were beaten 5 -1 away at Claremorris. The losers played well in the first half but not so well in the second period. Michelin Fogarty scored for the losers.

In an all Roscommon and District League clash Dunmore Town had a 5 – 1 win over Cam / Dysart at Dunmore. Padraig Martyn scored four and Ramann Saman one for the winners. Peter Cummins scored for the losers.

In the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League Champions Moore United were beaten 4 – 2 away to runners up Boyle Celtic. Moore got off to a good start and were a goal ahead three minutes into the game. However Ger Mc Dermottroe had the sides level a few minutes later. Callum Andrews scored two before half time for Boyle Celtic and completed his hat trick before Moore United added their second.

St Johns Athletic and Ballinasloe Town drew 2 – 2 at Lecarrow. Cian Kelly gave the home side an early lead but Ryan Burke and Conor Dowd gave Ballinasloe Town a 2 -1 lead at half time. Ryan Dowling scored for the home side in the second half.

In the Women’s League Castlerea Celtic had a 5 – 1 win over Ballinasloe Town at Ballinasloe. It was a hard game with the visitors the more clinical in front of goal. Castlerea Celtic were 2 – 0 ahead at half time and added three more after the break. Sharon Dowd scored three Rachel Gormley and Reece Higgins got one each for the winners with Amanda Lynch scoring for the home side.

Cam Celtic beat Boyle Celtic 6 – 1 at Boyle. Cam were in fine form and Rebecca Collins headed their first after five minutes of play. Aimee O Connor added a second a few minutes later and Katie Nolan and Aoife Coyle made it 4 – 0 at the break. Maeve Brogan pulled one back for Boyle but Katie Nolan and Aimee O Connor added two more for the winners.

St Cuans Ahascragh United concede their game to Shiven Rovers.

In the reserve league Roscommon United drew 2 – 2 with C P Ajax at Lisnamult. Joao Markos and Barra O Shea scored for the Roscommon side.

Shiven Rovers beat Boyle 3 -2 at Boyle. Darragh Murphy scored two and Mark Ward one for the winners. Aaron Calpin Declan Morris scored for Boyle Celtic.
