Round Up 16th April 2023.
After a brilliant run in the Connacht Cup Cloonfad United bowed out at the Quarter- Final stages when beaten 2 – 1 by the Sligo Super league side Strand Celtic at Cloonfad. While Strand Celtic were the better side did have some really good chances and came close on at least three occasions. Roscommon and District League Division 1 side Cloonfad United took the lead through Conor Flynn after fourteen minutes of play. . The Sligo side were level within a minute of the start of the second half through Conor Mc Keon and Niall Mc Dermott added a second with seven minutes left to play.

Ballinasloe Town advanced to the Premier Division Cup Final following a comfortable 4 - 1 win over St Johns Athletic at Lecarrow. Nemanja Saspovic and Josh Mc Carthy gave the winners a 2 -0 win at half time. Josh Mc Carthy added two more after the break. Daire Keenan converted a penalty kick for the losers.

In the Quarter-Finals which was earlier in the week Ballinasloe Town beat Kilkerrin United 2 -1 at Ballinasloe. Ryan Burke and Josh Mc Carthy gave the home side a 2 – 0 lead with John Miskell

Ballinasloe Town will play Ballaghaderreen in the final following their 3 – 0 win over Boyle Celtic at Ballaghaderreen. The sides were well matched in the first half with few real chances created. Ballaghaderreen finally broke the deadlock when Cormack Rushe created a chance for Christopher Dunne who headed Ballaghaderreen into the lead. Cormack Rushe added a second and with ten left to play Danny Browne set up Cathal Horan to seal the win and a place in the final.

Ballinagare / Manor United are through to the Division 1 Cup Final following a 6 – 0 win over Ballinasloe Town “B “at Ballinagare. Power housed midfielder Aidan Dowd with the help of Vando scored three first half goals for the winners. John Stokes added a fourth with sixty played again with some help from Vando .Seven minutes later Alan Keane scored his first goal of the season when he got on the end of a John Stokes corner kick. With fourteen minutes left to play Thomas Ward created an opening for Johns Stokes who scored his second goal of the game.

Shiven Rovers will play Ballinagare / Manor United in the final after they had a penalty shoot out win over Ballymoe F C at Newbridge. While Shiven Rovers were slightly the better side Ballymoe had a great chance near the end of extra time to win the game and avoid the dreaded penalty shootout. Keith Murphy gave Shiven Rovers a 1 – 0 lead with fifty played and Dan Malone levelled the game with fifteen minutes of normal time remaining. With no more goals scored the game went to a penalty shootout with Shiven coming out on top on a 5 -4 score line.

The race for the Women’s championship is really close with Cam Celtic and Kilkerrin United in a major battle for the title. Kilkerrin United beat Cam Celtic 3 – 1 earlier in the week at Kilkerrin and they travel to Shiven Rovers in the last league game. Should they win this game they will play Cam Celtic at a neutral venue to decide who will be Roscommon and District League Champions. Caitlin Boyle converted two penalties and Katelyn Mee added a third in their 3 – 1 win over Cam Celtic.

In the FAI Women’s Amateur Shield Kilkerrin United had a stunning 4 – 0 win over the Galway side Athenry F C at Athenry. Lynsey Noone scored all four goals for the Kilkerrin side.
