Roscommon and District League
Round Up 5th March 2023
Last Sunday was a great day for teams from the Roscommon and District League Women’s teams as they had three great wins in the FAI Amateur Cup and the Connacht Shield.
Kilkerrin United had an impressive 3 – 2 win over Athenry in the FAI Women’s Amateur Cup at Kilkerrin. Caitlin Boyle gave the home side a 1 – 0 lead but Athenry levelled the game before halftime. Caitlin Boyle scored again early in the second for Kilkerrin but Athenry were soon level. However with ten minutes left to play Lynsey Noone scored the winner for a talented Kilkerrin side.
Ballaghaderreen are also through to the next round of the FAI Women’s Amateur Cup following a great 3 – 2 win over the Galway City side Corrib Rangers at Ballaghaderreen. The home side came from behind on two occasions before coming out on top. Second half substitute Pauline O Grady was player of the match as she scored all three goals for Ballaghaderreen.
Castlerea Celtic Women’s team are through to the Semi-Finals of the Connacht Shield following a hard earned 3 – 2 win over Kiltimagh / Knock United at Castlerea. The game was level at 2 – 2 at the end of normal time but Clodagh Diggins scored the winner in the second period of extra time. Rachel Gormley and Clodagh Diggins had earlier scored two fine goals for the Castlerea Celtic side.
Ballinasloe Town are through to the Quarter-Finals of the Premier Division Cup following a 3 – 2 win over Moylough 79 at Ballinasloe. Josh Mc Carthy gave Ballinasloe Town a 2 – 0 half time lead and Ryan Burke added a third in the first minute of the second half. Moylough pulled two goals back through Michael Kelly and James Foley but just failed to get an equaliser.
The Castleplunket side C P Ajax are also through to the Quarter – Finals of the Premier Division Cup following a hard earned 1- 0 win at home to Skyvalley Rovers. C P Ajax were slightly the better side in the first half but after that the teams were well matched. Fergal Moylan scored the only goal of the game after fifty five minutes of play.
Cloonfad United are through to the Quarter-Finals of the Division 1 Cup and a meeting with Ballinagare / Manor United in the next round following a 4 – 1 win over Dunmore Town at Dunmore.
Cloonfad got off to a great start and were 3 – 0 up after nine minutes. Conor Flynn converted a penalty kick after three minutes and Neill Morris added a second two minutes later. Conor Flynn got his twentieth goal of the season with nine played and Neill Morris made 4 – 0 with sixty played the home side pulled a goal back and missed a penalty kick in the closing stages of the game.
St Cuans/ Ahascragh United advanced to the final of the Division 2 Cup thanks to a comfortable 4 – 1 win over Rahara Rovers at Rahara. Jamie Tiernan gave Rahara Rovers an early lead but Mark Dowd and Darragh Concannon scored twice before half time for the winners. Colin Concannon added a third from the penalty spot and with five minutes left to play Kenny English sealed a win for St Cuans Ahascragh United when he added a fourth
The Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic also advanced to the final when they beat St Johns Athletic 3- 0 at Lecarrow. Ryan Duffy broke the deadlock with thirty played and Ryan My Hugh added a second with sixty two played. Evan Duffy showed his brother that he can also score when he added the third with twenty left to play.
Shiven Rovers and Boyle Celtic drew 1 – 1 in the Roscommon and District League Women’s League played at Newbridge. Laura Kelly got on the end of a Laura Leahy free kick to give the home side a 1 – 0 half time lead. Kate Hannon replied for Boyle Celtic with a great volley with twelve minutes played in the second half.
In the Reserves Division Shiven Rovers beat Cloonfad United 4 – 2 at Cloonfad. Andy Muldoon, Francisco Miras Real, Seamie O Kelly and Sylvester Zwierczyk scored for the Newbridge side with Jack Sullivan and James Ruane scoring for
Cloonfad.
Moore United drew 3 – 3 with Ballinagare Manor United at Moore. All the goals came in the second half. Ballinagare Manor United went 2 – 0 up after only ten minutes of play in the second half through Oisin O Bernie and Vando.
Mark Lennon and Liam Johnston levelled the game and Andy Hussey gave Moore United a 3 – 2 lead going into time added on. However Vando struck a late equaliser.
