Roscommon and District League
Round Up
The Fifty third season of the Roscommon and District League commenced over the weekend with just teams from the Premier Division in action.
League Champions Moore United got off to a bad start when beaten at home by Ballinasloe Town. While Ballinasloe Town are concentrating on rebuilding their team they were rewarded for sticking with their younger players and were worth their 3 – 1 win. Jack Nevin gave Moore a first half lead but just before half time Nemanja Spasojevic levelled the game. Josh Mc Carthy gave the winners a 2-1 lead just after half time and Mar Kilkenny added a third before the end.
Last season’s runners up Boyle Celtic beat the Castleplunket side C P Ajax at Tarmon. Callum Andrews got on the end of a Conor Calpin cross to score the only goal of the game with ten minutes left to play.

Castlerea Celtic beat St Johns Athletic 2 – 0 at Lecarrow. A Giles Mc Donagh free kick gave Castlerea Celtic a 1 – 0 half time lead and Jarlath Geraghty added a second with fifteen left to play.

An impressive Ballaghaderreen side beat Shiven Rovers 2- 1 at Newbridge. Danny Browne and Cormac Rushe gave Ballaghaderreen a 2 – 0 half time lead. Keith Murphy pulled one back from the penalty spot for Shiven Rovers but they just could not get an equaliser.

With Ireland playing Holland in Dublin next Sunday there will be no games in the Roscommon and District League. However games in all Divisions will be played the following weekend.
