RDFL OPENING WEEKEND FIXTURES PREVIEW BY VINCENT BROOKS

Roscommon and District League Preview.
Next weekend sees the beginning of the fifty second season of football for the Roscommon and District League with teams from the top two Divisions in action.
After a shorter than usual break the competing teams are looking forward to the new season. Last seasons Champions Boyle Celtic are first up and they have a home game against Moylough 79 at Boyle on Friday night with a kick off time of 8.00 pm
The home side lost just two of their eighteen League games last season and will be hoping for a good start. Moylough 79 finished in fourth place in the league and overall they are a talented side.
Last season’s runners up Ballinasloe Town play neighbours Skyvalley Rovers who returned to the Premier Division after one season in Division 1. . They have former player Henry Loughnane as Manager but his young side are unlikely to beat a very experienced Town side. This game kicks off on Sunday at 2.00 pm at Ballinasloe
Castlerea Celtic had a very bad season by their high standards last season and will be hoping for a much better start when they play Moore United at Castlerea at 2.00 pm on Sunday.
Moore United are a good side and while a bit inconsistent last season they were in contention for the League and Cup competitions for most of the season. They will start favourites.
Ballaghaderreen take on St Johns Athletic at Ballaghaderreen at the same time. St Johns Athletic have a really good side and have steadily improved in recent seasons. The home side have talented players but will miss their previous Manager James Holton. St Johns Athletic will start favourites.
Newly promoted C P Ajax take on Kilkerrin United at Tarmon at 2.00 on Sunday. The home side played really well last season and should take something from their home game.

Looking at previous seasons the Division 1 is always very competitive with most of the teams in contention until the very end. The season ahead looks like following the same pattern.
Ballymoe F C who played in the Premier Division last season start the season with a home game against Dunmore Town at Ballymoe on Friday night with a kick off time of 8.00 pm. The home side will start slight favourites.
Ballinagare Manor United play Roscommon United at 11.00 am at Ballinagare. Both teams played really well last season and a share of the spoils seem the most likely outcome.
Ballinasloe Town won this Division last season and they will start favourites when the play Dysart at Ballinasloe at 11.00 am on Sunday.
The remaining game sees Cam Celtic with a home game against Cloonfad United. The visitors will start favourites. This game also has an 11.00 am kick off on Sunday.

The League Management tam extend their best wishes to all the teams competing in the season ahead.
