Roscommon and District League Round Up
Congratulations are extended to Boyle Celtic who are the new Roscommon and District League Champions following their 3 -1 win over Ballymoe F C at Boyle. This talented side only lost two of their eighteen League Championship games and finished five points ahead of their nearest challengers Ballinasloe Town.
While Boyle Celtic played in the Sligo Leitrim League in recent times it was their first Roscommon and District league title since 1987.
Boyle Celtic only required a draw in their game with Ballymoe F C but the visitors were not in a charitable mood and took a deserved lead just before half time. Michael Kenny scored from the penalty spot following a hand ball.
Man of the match Shane Battles levelled the game with sixty played and he added a second six minutes later. Young David Flanagan volleyed a superb third for the winners with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

With their minds firmly set on the Connacht Cup final next week end and the Premier title out of their reach Ballinasloe Town drew 3 – 3 with St Johns Athletic in an open game at the Curragh Grounds Ballinasloe. Cian Kelly and Caimin Boldan gave the visitors an early 2 – 0 lead. Liam Lynch and Josh Mc Carthy had the teams level at the break. Christy Hurley gave the Lecarrow side a 3 – 2 lead with fifty five played and Niall Stack levelled the game in the last minute of the game.

Castlerea Celtic had a surprise 4 – 1 win over Moore United and advanced to the next round of the Norios Premier Division Cup. The home side started well and Peter Farrell gave them an early lead after receiving a defence splitting pass from Frank Hester. Moore United improved as the game went on but were caught out when Peter Farrell added a second before half time. Frank Hester headed a third for the winners and Jarlath Geraghty added a fourth before Mark Gannon scored a spectacular goal for the losers.

Ballinagare /Manor United beat Dunmore Town 3 – 2 at Ballinagare in their last Division 1 league game of the season. Two from Aaron Dowd and an own goal secured the three points for the winners. Declan Forde and an own goal made up the Dunmore Town total.

In the Division 1 Cup Shiven Rovers beat Skyvalley Rovers 4 – 2 in a game that was closer than the score suggests. Tom Doyle opened the scoring for the winners and Adam Farrell added two more and a late strike from Francis Kilcommins made it 4 -2. Conal Moore and Mike Donoghue scored for the losers.

In the Division 2 Cup Semi Finals Cam Celtic beat Dunmore Town 4 – 3 in a penalty shoot out after the game finished 1 – 1 at the end of extra time. Aaron O Connell gave Dunmore a 1 – 0 lead and David Cunniffe scored for Cam Celtic in normal time. In a thrilling climax Cam came out on top in the resultant penalty shoot out.

Skyvalley Rovers are through to the Division 2 Cup final and a local derby game with Cam Celtic in the final. They beat Ballaghaderreen 1- 0 away Ballaghaderreen. Playing with a strong wind in the first half Skyvalley Rovers were in control and a brilliant solo goal from Shane Naughton gave them a 1 -0 lead after twenty five minutes of play. The winners withstood constant pressure in the second half and only a brilliant save from young Dara Moore in the last minute kept them in front.

In the Masters League Cam Celtic beat Skyvalley Rovers 3 – 2 at Taughmaconnell.

Mark Gavin Luke Donnelly and Sean Doyle scored for the winners.

Moore United drew 2 – 2 with Colemanstown.

Roscommon United beat Castlerea Celtic 4 – 0 at Roscommon.
Kamil Podpryga Richie Evans Carl Garvin and Paul Allen scored their goals.

In the Women’s league Ballinasloe Town beat St Cuans/Ahascragh United 3 – 1 at Ballinasloe.

Kayle Clark Keontopp Cassie Finnerty Francesca Hogan scored for the winners.

Cam Celtic/Dysart beat Shiven Rovers 5 -3 at Dysart.
