RDFL ROUND UP BY VINCENT BROOKS

Roscommon and District League Round Up.
Just two points separate the top three in the Premier Division of the Roscommon and
District League. Boyle Celtic hold on to top spot with Ballinasloe Town a point behind and
Kilkerrin a further point behind.
Boyle Celtic played Moore United at the League Grounds Lecarrow and came away with a 2
– 0 win. Boyle were the better side and only some outstanding saves by the young Moore
keeper Paddy Reilly denied them a much larger win.
Darren Conon gave the winners a 1 -0 half time lead and Darren Foley added a second after
the break.
Ballinasloe Town beat Ballaghaderreen 3 – 0 at Ballaghaderreen. The visitors were the
better side for the first quarter and went in front after sixteen minutes thanks to a well
struck Jordan Carr free kick. Ballaghaderreen came more into the game for the remainder of
the half but could make no headway against an experienced Ballinasloe defence. Jordan O
Leary added a second with sixty five played and Des Hope completed the scoring with eight
minutes left to play.
The Kilkerrin v Castlerea Celtic and Moylough v Ballymoe games were postponed.
In the Connacht F A Cup Premier side Cloonfad United lost 3 -1 at home to the Mayo
Champions Ballyheane. Conor Flynn scored for Cloonfad United.
In Division 1 Ballinagare /Manor United had a 2 -1 win over Shiven Rovers at Ballinagare.
The home side were on top for most of the game but only a late goal secured all three
points. Gerry Ward gave the home side a 1 – 0 lead after twenty minutes when he received
an inch perfect pass from Darragh Burke. With just seven minutes left to play Adam Farrell
levelled the game and the Newbridge side looked set to take a point. However four minutes
later a Gerry Ward corner kick was headed to the Shiven net by Patrick O Connor.
Leaders Ballinasloe Town drew 2 – 2 with Roscommon United in a really entertaining game
at Ballinasloe. The Roscommon Town side took the lead with fifteen played with Jamie
Bracken finishing off a fine passing move involving John Brennan and Marcel. Jamie Bracken
then missed a few chances to stretch their lead which was most unlike him. Just before half
time Warren Coyne converted a penalty kick for the home side to level the game. Joe O
Brien scored for the home side with just five minutes played in the second half. The visitors
piled on the pressure and were rewarded when Jamie Bracken converted from the penalty
spot after Vando was fouled.
The Skyvalley Rovers game v Dunmore game was postponed due to two bereavements.
In Division 2 Just four points separate the top eight teams in this division. Dunmore Town
missed out on the chance to leap frog Skyvalley Rovers when beaten 1 – 0 away to Rahara
Rovers. Shane Mc Cormack scored with a fine strike with twenty minutes left to play and the
three points keep Rahara Rovers in the title race.
St Cuans Ahascragh United recovered from a bad defeat last week end to beat Boyle Celtic 1
– 0 at Ahascragh.
Omar Dalton scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

Cloonfad United edged out Roscommon United 3 – 2 at Roscommon
Ryan Merchant Darren Keadin and Daniel Fagan scored for Cloonfad and Szymon Sikorski
and Adam Bracken replied for Roscommon United.
St Johns Athletic beat Moore United 2 – 1 at Moore. Charlie O Beirne and Derek Doyle
scored for the winners and Shane Kenny replied for the losers.
