Roscommon and District League Round up.

The second round of the Connacht Cup took center stage last weekend with men and womens teams from the Roscommon and District League in action. As expected it was a day of mixed fortunes for the Roscommon and District League teams.

Division 1 side Cloonfad United had a comfortable 3- 1 win over Kinvara United at Cloonfad.

Darragh Flynn gave Cloonfad a 41st minute lead. Despite being in total control during the second half Cloonfad allowed Kinvara back into the contest with a 67 min penalty 1-1. Kinvara then missed a great opportunity to take the lead. Cloonfad introduced two subs from their Under 18 team with 15 minutes left and both players scored to give Cloonfad United the victory. Darren Keadin (82) and Robert Heneghan (93) scored the goals

Shiven Rovers travelled to Salthill Devon's second side and won 4 - 1 after extra time. James Mulrooney broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half with a fine volley following a corner kick. The home side levelled the game with two minutes left in normal time. In extra time Conor French gave the Newbridge side the lead and Keith Murphy added two more to secure a place in round three for the winners.

Ballinagare / Manor United lost 3 - 0 away to a very good Cregmore /Claregalway side.

Ballymoe also lost out. They were beaten 3 - 1 by Loughrea at Ballymoe. Damien Goggins scored for the losers.

Dunmore Town were beaten 1 - 0 at home to Athenry and the Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic were beaten 2 - 0 at home by the Caherlestrane side St Patricks F C.

Division 1 side travelled to Clarinbridge but unfortunately they were beaten 1- 0 by the home side Colga FC. 

Shiven Rovers senior ladies were unlucky today in the Connacht Cup losing 4 3 in extra time. Despite going ahead 3 times Salthill Devon struck the winner with 4 minutes left in the 2nd half of extra time.

Laura Farrell scored   on 20 minutes and Emer Conlon daughter of Tomas Conlon a former Shiven Rovers striker equalized shortly after. In the 2nd half Laura Farrell crossed to Maeve O'Brien who scored from close range. Shortly after a penalty was awarded for Salthill due to a handball which was scored by Kaelah Tobin. That brought it to 2 all at fulltime and extra time to follow. First half of extra time Lucy Dunican chipped the Salthill keeper from 20 yards out making it 3 - 2 to Shiven. Salthill made it 3 all with a goal from a corner scored by Ciara Fogarty. Late into the second half of extra time Salthill scored. The ball played down the right wing crossed in and scored by a super Riah McPhilbin header. Final score 4 - 3 to Salthill.

In the Premier Division Ballinasloe Town closed the gap on the leaders to a single point with a game in hand. They beat Moylough 2 - 1 at Ballinasloe. Niall Stack and Josh Mc Carthy scored for the winners while Sean Mc Donagh replied for the losers.

Moore United snatched a very late equalizer at home to joint leaders Boyle Celtic.Michael Corrigan gave Boyle Celtic a 1- lead with fifteen left to play but in the fourth minute of time added on Paddy Gavin got a well deserved equalizer for Moore United.

Skyvalley Rovers and Ballaghaderreen drew 3 - 3 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. The home side were 3 - 0 up at half time but Ballaghaderreen scored three times after the break. Cathal Kelly scored two and Caelim Keogh one for Skyvalley Rovers with Danny Browne Ben Feeney and shairoze Akram scoring for Ballaghaderreen.

In Division 1 Roscommon United had a welcome 3 - 1 win over Dysart at Dysart. Patryk Pietrzak scored two and Ericlk Klempar 0ne for the winners wigh James Corbett replying for Dysart.

In Division 2 Rahara moved into second place following an 8 - 0 win over Dunmore town's second side.

Jamie Tiernan and Conor Kavanagh gave the winners a half time lead. After the break Tiernan completed his hat trick with Seamus Lynch adding two and Luke Donnelly and Mark Ward compleeting the scoring.

In the only game played in the Women's League Ballaghaderreen beat Colemans United 7 - 1 at Ballaghaderreen. Game was  played in wet and windy conditions. The home side took an early lead but Rachel O Brien soon had the sides level. From then on it was the winners who were on top in a sporting game.  Excellent team performance from Colemanstown who never gave up.  Superb team performance from Ballaghaderreen ladies playing positive attacking football kept pressure on Colemanstown defence.  Goals scored by Tara Phillips and Caoimhe Feeny both getting hatricks substitute Jessica Feeny getting 1.
