RDFL WEEKEND ROUND UP BY VINCENT BROOKS

Roscommon and District League Round up
!3th March 2022
The race to win the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League is really close with Kilkerrin United, Boyle Celtic, Ballinasloe Town and Moylough just four of the teams who could still win the Premier Championship.

The big game over the weekend was the meeting of leaders Kilkerrin United and Ballinasloe Town. The game was switched to Ballinasloe and following a great performance by the Kilkerrin side the game ended scoreless. Kilkerrin remain five points clear at the top but Ballinasloe Town have three games less played.

Boyle Celtic are level with Ballinasloe Town in joint second place following a 1 – 0 win over Castlerea Celtic at Castlerea. Michael Corrigan scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half.

Moylough 79 share second place but have three games more played. They beat challengers St Johns Athletic 3 – 0 at the League Grounds Lecarrow. Man of the Match Sean Kelly scored after five minutes and added a second with thirty played. Pierce Townsend added a third for the winners with sixty four played against a St Johns side who had a bad day by their standards.

Moore United kept their title hopes alive when they beat Ballymoe F C 2 – 1 at Falty Moore. The score would be much greater only some excellent saves by Paddy Reilly for Moore United and Richard Thompson for Ballymoe.
Charles Nevin created an opening for Paul Kelly to give Moore United a half time lead. Early in the second half Charles Nevin volleyed to the Ballymoe net from outside the Ballymoe penalty area. The Ballymoe captain John Connaughton pulled a goal back with ten minutes left to play but Moore held out to take all three points.

In round 2 of the Joe’s Bar sponsored Challenge Cup Skyvalley beat fellow Division 1 side Glen Celtic 4 – 1 at Glenamaddy. Richard Browne Sean Ryan and Callum O Brien gave Skyvalley Rovers a 3 – 0 half time lead. Sean Ryan made it 4 – 0 before Glen Celtic pulled a goal back.

The Castleplunket side C P Ajax are also through to round three when they knocked out Boyle Celtic second side.

For various reasons the remaining fixtures were postponed.

Skyvalley Rovers Under14 side reached the Simi-Finals of the Connacht Cup when they beat Ballinrobe 3 – 1 at Ballinrobe. Enda Browne scored 2 and Simon Skocz one for the Taughmaconnell side. Well done to all the Players and Managers Derek Cusack and Nigel Moore.

The brilliant Dunmore Town Under15 Girls team just missed out on a place in the Quarter Finals of the SFAI Cup when they were beaten away to a powerful Curracloe side at Curracloe. The Dunmore girls had some big wins to reach the last sixteen and can be proud of their achievements. The Dunmore Under 13 Girls are still in the National competition and play Knocknacara in the next round.

Where next?
