Roscommon and District League Round Up

Boyle Celtic added the Premier Division Cup to they already won Premier Division Championship and Centenary Cup following a hard earned 2 – 1 win over Ballinasloe Town at the Roscommon and District League Grounds Lecarrow. While Ballinasloe Town can feel really proud of their many fine displays all season they will be disappointed to finish runners up in the Connacht Cup, the Premier Division Championship and the Norios Premier Division Cup.
Ballinasloe Town were a goal up at half time thanks to young Josh Mc Carthy but man of the match Brian Mc Crann scored two really special goals after the break. With twenty one minutes played in the second half he beat two players near the half way line and volleyed to the top corner of the Ballinasloe Town net. With just two minutes remaining he scored a second to secure the win for Boyle Celtic.

Shiven Rovers won their second cup in eight days when they beat Ballinagare /Manor United 3 – 0 at the League Grounds Lecarrow. The game was much tighter than the score line suggested but the experience of winning the Challenge Cup the previous Sunday stood to Shiven Rovers. This Ballinagare / Manor United never reached the heights of a week previously when they beat Ballaghaderreen 2- 0 to win the D K Shield. The mobile Adam Farrell opened the scoring for Shiven Rovers after thirty four minutes of play and the same player added a second with six minutes of normal time remaining. Matthew Barrett volleyed a third to seal a win for the Newbridge side.

After a long season Ballaghaderreen secured the Division 2 Championship with a 1- 0 win over Cam Celtic in their Division 2 playoff game at Lecarrow on Friday evening. Both teams played really well but it was the Ballaghaderreen leading goal scorer Christopher Dunne who decided this game with a goal after sixty minutes of play.
