RDFL WEEKEND ROUND UP AND RESULTS BY VINCENT BROOKS

Roscommon and District League Round up
Congratulations are extended to Ballinasloe Town who advanced to the last
sixteen of the FAI Centenary Cup following a penalty shootout win over the
Mayo Champions Ballyheane at Ballinasloe. The home side got off to a perfect
start when Garry Egan converted a penalty kick after Ryan Burke was taken
down inside the first minute of the game. Ballinasloe Town were the better
side for the next half hour with Niall Stack Ryan Burke and Jordan Carr very
impressive. With thirty eight played Ballyheane equalised. Ben Edah and Liam
Irwin created an opening for Nathan Reilly Doyle and he turned two defenders
before shooting to the Ballinasloe net. For the remainder of the normal and
extra time the teams were well matched with both sets of defenders very
comfortable. There were no more scores in normal or extra time and so the
game went to a penalty shoot-out. Both teams scored seven each without a
miss and so it came down to Des Hope who scored after his opposite number
scored first time but was made take it a second time only to miss.
Also in Round five Boyle Celtic made the long journey to Waterford where they
played Villa F C who are fourth favourite to win this prestigious competition.
Despite playing reasonably well Boyle failed to advance to the last sixteen.
