Boyle Celtic and Moore United continue their battle for the Premier Division Championship and in now looks like the last league game between the sides will decide who the Champions are.

Boyle Celtic were relieved to come away with a point from their game against Castlerea Celtic at Castlerea. The game started at a hectic pace with both teams going all out for a win. With just eleven minutes played Mike Conroy combined with Oisin O Farrell and his good cross resulted in a penalty kick for Castlerea Celtic. Unfortunately for the Castlerea side they failed to score from the spot. Darren Clabby gave Castlerea Celtic the lead before half time with a magnificent strike from outside the penalty area. Boyle Celtic showed their experience in the second half and continued to knock the ball about while trying to create an opening. They were rewarded when they won a penalty kick and Gerard Mc Dermott Roe converted with fifteen left to play.

Moore United faced a really challenging game against St Johns Athletic at Lecarrow and while the game itself was a real thriller unfortunately for Moore United they came away with no reward for the fine football. The only goal of the game was scored by Cian Kelly for St Johns Athletic.

Moore United are four points behind Boyle Celtic but have a game less played.
They will play C P Ajax before their final game against Boyle Celtic.

Ballinasloe Town beat Kilkerrin United 3 – 2 at Ballinasloe .The winners scored two goals within a minute halfway through the first half through Josh Mc Carthy and Shane Duffy. Kevin Traynor pulled one back for Kilkerrin with a twenty five meter volley five minutes before half time and Brian Miskell scored an even better goal just after half time to level the game. Mike Lynch headed the winner for the home side with three minutes left to play.

Moylough 79 gave themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation when they beat Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 1 at Taughmaconnell. Dermott Hughes gave Moylough a 1 – 0 lead after only two minutes when he converted a penalty kick. Padraig Corbett levelled the game but just before half time Michael Mulligan restored the Moylough lead. James and Michael Foley and Michael Mulligan added three more after the break.

In the Joes Bar sponsored Challenge Cup holders Shiven Rovers are safely through to round three following a 2 – 0 win over Ballinasloe Town “B” at Ballinasloe. Frank Kilcommins and Adam Farrell scored for the winners.

Cloonfad United, who are in second place in Division 1, were fully tested by Division 1 leaders St Cuans /Ahascragh United at Cloonfad. Neill Morris gave Cloonfad United a 1 – 0 lead with thirty nine played and Conor Flynn scored his eighteenth goal of the season with seventy one played. Darragh Concannon pulled a goal back for St Cuans /Ahascragh United with eight left to play and the losers had a great chance to level the game in the last minute but Cloonfad United held out to make the third round.

Ballinagare / Manor United received a walk over Ballymoe F C.

In Round 2 of the Women’s Challenge Cup Cam Celtic beat Boyle Celtic 3 – 2 after extra time in a real thriller at Boyle . Aimee O Connor gave Cam Celtic a first half lead but the Home side were soon level thanks to Ciara Byrne. Aimee O Connor restored the Cam Celtic lead but Boyle Celtic never gave up and Anna Mc Grath levelled the game with just a minute of normal time remaining.
Katie Nolan scored the winner for Cam Celtic in the first period of extra time.

In the Women’s Challenge Shield Castlerea Celtic beat Colemanstown 4 – 2 at Castlerea. Shelly Taylor and Clodagh Diggins scored two each for Castlerea Celtic and Issa Harun scored both goals for the losers.

In the Reserve League Moore United beat Cloonfad United 3 – 0 at Cloonfad. Moore United went 1 -0 up on the hour mark when Jason Cunningham creating a chance for Luke Dolan. Some good play from Mark Lennon created an opening for Luke Dolan to add his second and Captain Ross Mc Manus sealed the three points when he scored a third with twelve minutes left to play after receiving a neat pass from Barry Finn.

Congratulations to the Castlerea Celtic team who had a huge win over the fancied Wilton of Cork in the last 16 of the FAI Under 12 Cup. Well Done
