Roscommon & District League Round-up 30th September 2018

Most of the teams from the Roscommon and District League were in action in the first round of the New Balance sponsored FAI Junior Cup on Sunday and overall it was a good day for the local teams. Ballinasloe Town travelled to Sligo and beat the Sligo Super League side MCR FC 3 -0. Ryan Burke opened the scoring with seven minutes played and Gary Canavan and Mike lynch added two more to seal the win.

Skyvalley Rovers also travelled to Sligo and beat St. John’s FC 4 - 0. The sides were level at half time bit after the break David Grehan scored three and Daniel Glynn one for the Taughmaconnell side.

In an all Premier Division clash, Moore United were somewhat flattered by their 4 - 1 win over Dysart on Friday night. Adam McManus gave the winners a lead after five minutes. James Corbett levelled the game before Andy Nevin scored for Moore ten minutes before half time. Dysart struck the post before Shane Dunning and Andy Hussey scored for Moore United.

Ballaghaderreen FC beat Rahara Rovers 4 - 0 at Rahara. Donald Forest and Cian McCann in the first half and Shane Towey and James Dowd in the second scored the goals for the winners.

Boyle Celtic were unlucky to be beaten in a penalty shootout by old rivals Carbury FC after their game finished 2 - 2 after extra time. The losers came from behind on two occasions thanks to an own goal and a Ger McDermott-Roe freekick before losing 4 - 3 in the shootout.

Castlerea Celtic overcame a recent defeat by Ballymoe to beat them 5 - 1 at Castlerea. Paul Mee and Nathan Bligh for the winners and Damien Goggins for Ballymoe scored in the first half while Damien Freyne, Paul Mee and Nathan Bligh added three more after the break for Castlerea.

St. Peter’s FC received a wall over from Shiven Rovers.

In the Norio's Takeaway Division One, Dunmore Town beat Ahascragh United 2 – 1 at Ahascragh. Shane Gleeson converted a penalty kick for the winners after twenty five and while Lee Johnson levelled the game after forty nine minutes. Thomas Gleeson headed the winner a minute later.

CP Ajax and Moylough ‘79 drew 1 - 1 at Tarmon. Daniel Connolly scored first for the home side with Adam Connolly levelling for Moylough.

St. John’s Athletic beat Cam Celtic 2 - 1 at Lecarrow. Tommy Hurley scored both goals for the winners with Eoin Menton replying for the losers.

In the Killeens Sports Grounds Division Two, Castlerea Celtic B beat Shiven Rovers B 2 - 0 at Newbridge. Joe O’Flanagan scored the first and only some brilliant saves by Dylan Kelly kept the visitors in front. Man of the match Seamus Stenson added a second for Castlerea.

Manor United beat Cloonfad United’s second side 1 - 0 at Cloonfad. Fabio Henrique scored the winner.

Glen Celtic had to wait until the third minute of injury time before scoring the winner away to Ballymoe B, Micheal Geraghty with the all-important goal.

Roscommon United beat new side St. Cuan’s United 7 - 1 at Castleblakey. Michael Hanley and James Mc Donald scored two each and Jamie Bracken, Carl Garvin and Thomas Hanley added three more with Cian Reynolds replying for the losers.

FAI NEW BALANCE JUNIOR CUP ROUND 3 DRAW The draw for the round 3 of the FAI New Balance Junior Cup has been released.
"Turning of the Sod" for the John Sherlock Stand CEO of the FAI, Mr. John Delaney will officially "turn the sod" on the John Sherlock Stand at the RDFL Grounds, Lecarrow on Wednesday 3rd October at 6pm.
