Boyle Celtic advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the TP Brennan Connacht Cup with a hard earned 4 – 2 win away to the Conemeara side West Coast United. Playing with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half the Letterfrack side were 2 – 0 up at half time. Manager for the day David Finn kept his composure and Danny Brown had the sides level mid-way through the second half. Young Darren Foley and Danny Hughes added two more before the end to secure a win over the Galway side.

St. Peter’s remain very much on course to retain the Raftery’s Oakland Hotel sponsored Premier Division of the Roscommon & District League following a 2 – 2 draw away to Castlerea Celtic. The home side really needed a win to close the gap on the leaders to a single point but had to settle for a draw. Darragh Concannon gave the Athlone side a 1 – 0 lead with fifteen played but Paul Mee and Ronan Curran scored for Castlerea Celtic to give them a 2 – 1 half time advantage. Garry Stephens levelled the game and St Peter’s only need three points from their two remaining games to be champions.

Any hopes Ballymoe and Ballinasloe Town had of catching the leaders were dashed when the sides drew 0 – 0 at Ballymoe. Despite strong wind and sleet both side played plenty of good football with both keepers making good saves.

Skyvalley Rovers almost ended any relegations worries when they drew 1 – 1 with Cloonfad United away at Cloonfad. Skyvalley Rovers were slightly the better team and while they created more chance than their opponents both teams came close to adding to their total. With thirty-six minutes played Tom Butler won a penalty kick for Skyvalley Rovers and despite home protests David Grehan kept his cool to score from the penalty spot. Just when it looked like Skyvalley Rovers had won all three points, Shane Fagan volleyed to their net with five minutes played in extra time at the end of normal time.

Strokestown United had a rare win when they beat Shiven Rovers 3 – 2 at Strokestown. Darren Clabby got a hat trick for the winners. Micky Collins and Darragh Murphy replied for the losers.

Dysart beat Moore United 3 – 0 at Dysart but the win came a little late to affect their season. Niall Corbett converted a penalty kick and James Corbett scored from play before Jonathan Waldron converted a second penalty kick for the winners. All the goals came in the second half.

In the last sixteen of the TP Brennan Connacht Shield, Glen Celtic advanced to the Quarter-Finals following a thrilling win over St. Bernard’s second side at Glenamaddy. With the sides level 0 – 0 at half time few could foresee that twenty nine goals would be scored before Glen Celtic would come out on top. PJ Shanks scored two for the Glenamaddy side with the Abbeyknockmoy side levelling just before the final whistle. The game eventually went to a penalty shootout with Glen Celtic coming out on top on a 13 – 12 scoreline.

Cam Celtic were beaten 3 – 1 by Bearna na Forbacha at Bearna. Darren Donnelly scored for Cam Celtic.

Ballinasloe Town (pictured) lost to the Mayo League side Killala following a penalty shootout at Ballinasloe. Both teams failed to score in normal or extra time and in the resultant penalty shootout Killala won 4 – 2.

Roscommon United lost 7 – 0 away to Mervue United.

In the Norio's Division One, Dunmore Town drew 1 – 1 at home to St. John’s Athletic. The home side were the better side but were denied by the St. John’s keeper Declan Coyle on many occasions including a penalty kick. Declan Ford finally broke the deadlock after sixty-three minutes when he scored for Dunmore. Anthony Beades got an equaliser for the Lecarrow side with four minutes left to play.

In the only game played in the Killeen Sports Grounds Division Two, Manor United beat Shiven Rovers 4 – 1. Niall Devaney converted a free kick and Tom Ward added an excellent hat trick to bring his total to thirteen so far this season. Cathal McDermott scored for the Newbridge side.
