Roscommon and District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes

In the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League title holders St Peters made it three wins out of three when they beat Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 0 at Mc Carthy Park Athlone. Luke Francis scored two and JP Stephens Mark Sherlock and Garry Kelly added one each.

Castlerea Celtic picked up three valuable points with a hard earned 3 - 2 win over Moore United at Falty Park Moore. Andy Nevin gave the home side a 1- 0 lead after thirty minutes and Gerry Ward levelled the game two minutes before the half time whistle. Mark Nicholson had Moore United ahead for the second time in the game but Joey Loughran and Paul Mee scored for Castlerea Celtic in the last ten minutes of the game.

Kilkerrin United beat Ballymoe F C 2 – 1 at Kilkerrin. Michael Kenny scored for Ballymoe after ten minutes but the talented Liam Boyle levelled the game just before half time. Substitute Kevin Traynor scored a fine solo goal for Kilkerrin United with sixty two played and while Ballymoe F C tried their best in the closing stages they just could not break down a resoluted Kilkerrin defence.

St Johns Athletic beat newly promoted Moylough 1 -0 at Lecarrow. Jack O Beirne scored the all importand goal after only five minutes of play and after that the game could have gone in favour of either side.

Shiven Rovers had a good 1 – 1 draw away to last seasons runners up Ballinasloe Town. Joe Hunt gave the Newbridge side a 1 – 0 lead after only thirty seconds of play. Shiven defended well for the remainder of the game with their goalkeeper Chris Doran making a number of good saves. However Garry Egan levelled the game with ten minutes left to play.

In the only game played in the Norio's Division 1 Roscommon United beat Ahascragh United 4 – 1 at Ahascragh. Pat Mongan created an opening for Kenny English to score for the home side and Vando replied for the Town side to leave the sides level at half time.
After the break Jamie Bracken scored for the winners and he then created two clear chances for Vando to add two more before the end of the game

In Division 2 Boyle Celtic beat the Castleblaikney side St Cuans 6- 0 at Boyle. Luke Glennon scored three Cathal Feely two and Danial Hynes one for the winners.

Ballinasloe Town beat a young Roscommon United side 6 – 1 at Roscommon. Petrut Girmalau scored three Lucas Costa two and Guilherme Araujo one for the winners. Hayden Griffiths pulled a goal back for the losers.

Moore United beat Ballaghaderreen 2 – 1 at Ballaghaderreen. Both teams failed to score in the first but after the break Conor Mc Greal scored for the home side. Cormack Callinan finished off a cross from Liam Ryan to level the score. With time running out man of the match James Costello pulled off a fine save to keep Moore in the game and within minutes David Griffin created an opning for Shane Dunning to win all three points for Moore United with a late score.

The first round of the T P Brennan sponsored Connacht Cup was played at the weekend with only teams from Division 1 and Division 2 from the Roscommon and District League in action.

Division 2 side Glen Celtic beat the Galway League side St Patricke F C 6 – 1 at Caherlistrane. Michael Heneghan and Ryan Mc Hugh scored two each and Jason Connelly and Simon Stathurski one each for the Glenamaddy side.
A young Dysart side were beaten 6 – 0 away to a strong Gort United side and the Castleplunket side C P Ajax lost 6 – 1 away to the talented Mayo side Conn Rangers. Damien Boyle scored for the losers.

. Manor United pulled of an impressive 1 – 0 win over the Headford side Moyne Villa at Manor. The Galway side dominated play for most of the game but were kept at bay by a determined home defence with keeper James Beatty outstanding. The home side were rewarded when they won a penalty in the first half and Iago Alves converted the spot kick.

Ballaghaderreen (pictured) beat Athenry B 4 – 2 away at Athenry. Joe Luby scored two and Aidan Dowd one to give the winners a 3 – 0 half time lead. James Dowd made sure of a place for Ballaghaderreen in round two of the Connacht Cup when he added a fourth after the break.

Cam Celtic were beaten 2 – 1 at home to the Galway League side Oughterard. Diarmuid Colgan scored their goal.

Reminder

To mark the official opening of the John Sherlock Stand at the Roscommon and District League Grounds Lecarrow on Wednesday Evening the 25th September
the Republic of Ireland will play Northern Ireland in a Friendly Amatuer International.

Kick Off time on Wednesday evening is 7.30 PM.
