Roscommon and District League Round Up by Vincent Brookes.

The third round of the TP Brennan sponsored Connacht Cup took centre stage on Sunday and by and large it was a reasonably sucessfull day for teams from the Roscommon and District League

Roscommon and District League Premier Division side Boyle Celtic travelled to Sligo and beat the Sligo Leitrim Superleague side St Johns 3 - 2. Boyle were 3 - 0 up at half time and while they conceeded a couple of goals late in the game the outcome was rarely in doubt. Peter Keane struck two and Cathal Feely sored direct from a free kick to give the winners a comanding lead.

Premier Division leaders Castlerea Celtic were comfortable 4 - 0 winners over the Mayo Premier Division side Achill Rovers at Castlerea. Young Daniel Connolly scored for Castlerea in the fourth and seventh minute. Darren Clabby added a third with fifty four played and Nathan Bligh completed the scoring with seventy two minutes on the stopwatch.

Ballymoe F C were beaten 2 -1 away to the Sligo Leitrim Superleague leaders Cartron United.
Kevin Buckley and Enda Mc Gowan gave the home side a 2 - 0 half time lead. James Connaughton pulled a goal back for Ballymoe with sixty one minutes played but Cartron held on for a victory.

Ballinasloe Town were made to battle all the wy before overcoming the Galway Division 1 leaders Merlin / Medtronics at Ballinasloe. Ryan Burke and Jordan Carr scored two goals in the last eight minutes of the game to see Ballinasloe Town deservedly through to round four.

Premier side Moylough 79 didnt reach their usual high standards when beaten 2 - 1 away to Tuam Celtic. The home side were the better team in the first half and while their first goal came by way of a deflection they were 2 - 0 up at half time. Mylough had a player sent off early in the second half but they continued to battle on and pulled a goal back. James Fahy created an opening for Mattie Finn to score for Moylough but they failed to get an equaliser.

Division 2 side St Cuans played really well away to the Galway Premier Division challengers West United but were eventually beaten 5 - 3following a penalty shoot. The game ended 3 - 3 at the end of extra time with Jordan O Leary scoring all three goals for the Castleblaikney side.

Division 1 leaders Cloonfad United had an impressive 2 - 1 win away to the Mayo side Moy Villa.
The Ballina side were 1 - 0 up at half time but with sixty seven played Damien Lyons won a penalty kick and Conor Finn levelled the game when he converted the spot kick for Cloonfad. With seventy two played an absolute brillant solo goal scored by Luke Mc Dermott won a place for Cloonfad United in round four.

St Johns Athletic conceeded their game away to the Sligo Super League side Cardbury F C.

Division 2 leaders Glen Celtic played very well against one of the top two sides in the Galway League but were finally undone when Salthill Devon scored two goals in the last four minutes to secure their place in round four. The winners were 1 - 0 up at half time against the Glenamaddy side bur Ryan Mc Hugh levelled the game with sixty eight minutes played.

Premier side Kilkerrin United paid the ultimate price for a litany of missed chances when beaten 2 - 0 after extra time by the fancied Mayo Superleague side Ballyglass at kilkerrin.

Shiven Rovers suffered a similar fate when beaten 1 - 0 at home to the Galway Premier side Maree / Oranmore. The only goal came by way of a penalt kick just before half time.

In Round one of the Connacht Shield Manor United (pictured above) were beaten 2 - 1 at home by the Galway Division 1 side Mervue "B". Jack Gunning scored for an Unlucky Manor United side.

In the Norios Division 1 of the Roscommon and District League Dysart closed the gap on leaders Cloonfad United to two points when they beat Dunmore 3 - 0 at Dysart. Darragh Sheehy Niall Corbett and Andy Higgins were their goalscorers..

Cam Celtic beat Rahara Rovers 2 - 0 at Rahara.Diarmuid Colgan and Jack Mc Donnell scored for the winners in the second half.

All the remaining gammes were postponed due to frozen pitches.
